How I Live Now is an excellent book for older readers containing a few examples of swearing. Meg Rosoff uses a wide range of vocabulary and strong phrases that capture the imagination. The main charicter is strong minded but the begining can be slightly confusing due to the tense and form of which the book is writen. The war (that in some parts is quite intense) is never explaned properly and you never find out who the enemy is and it would have made it better to know these details, but this is probably because the book is writen from the main character, Daisy's point of view and she doesn't know what is happening and it is never explaned to her. The book is about love and romance, freedom and magic that is turned into horror and near death expirences, at the end of the book you don't know whether to be happy or sad, but will want to read it again. How I Live Now is an outstanding read and I would recomend it to anyone.
Advantages: Well-written, dramatic, entertaining and extremely compelling reading Disadvantages: Descriptions of war and attacks, quite graphic in areas
...and not overly graphic, more how their love is the one thing to keep them going - but you might want to be wary if this is likely to offend you. In conclusion, there's a reason this book won Publisher's Weekly Book Of The Year award last year, it's an amazing read. I've already recommended it to all my friends as not-too-challenging but very entertaining and gripping reading, and I hope this inspires you to give it a go too! ...

Advantages: Fab characters, fab plot Disadvantages: Not long enough!
...sex between fifteen-year-olds. These issues are both treated with sensitivity and in a matter-of-fact way. There is no moral preaching, and readers are left to make up their own minds. There is more empahsis on the morality of war and how the country is subsequently managed.
I loved this book. ...

...torn away from those you love. The wool is never pulled over the reader's eyes, and love itself is conveyed so much more truly, so much more painfully yet at the same time heart-warming-ly than cheesey high school love stories. How I Live Now- wonderfully sad, brilliantly real, superbly written. ...

This book is MegRosoff's latest book (after her first book 'howilivenow' which is ten times better). All the same though, this book is a great book. It is about a boy who saves his baby brothers life (depending how you look at it). But his little brother is special, he seems to be the only one who understands and even though he isnt that important to the book, i still think he is a great character. So Justin (previously David) Case, tries to change identity and then pretty much goes crazy and paranoid believing fate is trying to kill him he makes some new friends including his imaginary dog. Almost gets hit by a plane and manages to find amber and get meningitis. His old best friend and ex-lover is a fashion designer and always takes pictures. He has a bit of a messed up time and saying any more will mean you won't have to read ...
