"~* How To Get A Date! *~"

I used to be a massive fan of Mary-Kate and Ashley between the ages of ten and thirteen! I thought that they were so cool, and had all of their DVDs and books. The other day, I found a box of my old Mary-Kate and Ashley things, and so decided to review them ; the first, one of their books.

How To Flunk Your First Date is based on their television programme 'Two Of A Kind' which is currently showing on Sky's 'Pop Girl' channel. It's A Twin Thing is the first book in the 'Two Of A Kind' book series. In fact I saw an episode of this show on the television the other day, and I reminded me of how much I loved this show. Two Of A Kind is about American twins Mary-Kate and Ashley, who play themselves in the show ; eleven year old twins, who live in Chicago. They live with their single-parent father ; their mother died when they were seven. Their father is a lecturer at the local university. Mary-Kate is the cool one, loves sport, hangs out with guys and is the total opposite of Ashley is very girlie, and loves boys and shopping.

In this book, Mary-Kate is failing her maths class, and as a result her father gets her a private maths tutor, which means that Mary-Kate has to miss basketball practise. Ashley has a crush on Taylor, Mary-Kate's tutor, and it is not long before the twins are switching places so that Mary-Kate can attend basketball practise, and Ashley can spend some time with her crush.

This is book is based on one of the Two Of A Kind television episodes, and so every time I read this book, I always think of the episode. I think that is one of the reasons why the book is such a good read, because you can picture the scenes clearly. There are also some black and white pictures in the back of the book of scenes taken from the actual television episode.

This book is an example of a typical Mary-Kate and Ashley scenario. Ashley always seems to like a guy who Mary-Kate has connections with and is always desperate for her sister to 'switch with her', which I sometimes find annoying, although having said that, I still love this book because it is such a fun read. It always seems to work both ways though ; they both always seem to switch to get what they want which is kinda cool.

I really like the characters of Mary-Kate and Ashley as I think that they are so sweet, and real. You feel line one of their best friends. I think a lot of girls will be able to relate to the two characters as they 'come across' as so nice, and readers will be able to relate to them because they will be the same age as the twins are in the book, and be interested in the same things, such as shopping and boys.

When I was younger, I Could never choose who my favourite twin was ; I always liked them both the same. However, when I used to read the books I always found myself in favour of one twin (depending who had been the mean one), and they would be my favourite one throughout the book. Then when I would read a different book, I would prefer the other twin. Just for the record...In this book my favourite twin was Mary-Kate!

This book is suitable for all girlie girls and girls between the ages of nine and thirteen who like reading. I think that the books are also really good, because the fact that they are quite 'cool' means that it will encourage young girls to read. The style of writing is easy to read, and the book itself at just over one hundred pages long is not simple, yet not too difficult either which means it strikes a perfect balance.

I would definately recommend this book to all young girls! You can buy a copy of this book from play.com for less than £2 , which I think is fantastic value!

This book would make a perfect stocking filler this Christmas. There are also many other books in this series available!

Thanks for reading!
