This hilarious book …(yes folks it is a comedy!) is actually a diary of the first twelve months of a baby’s life…. Written by the baby itself! (Well .. as his keyboard skills aren’t that good yet .. actually written by Simon Brett!) This book is far from being a book for new parents to turn to for advice … but it will help them keep ... ...• language development ….”Oh, look how tightly oo’s holding that then! Isn’t oo a clever ickle baby then” (How I am ever going to learn to talk properly when all I hear is that kind of gibberish, God knows.)”

Advantages: Very funny, easy to read Disadvantages: leaves you wanting more
...LittleSod’s next step, subtitled - How to be a littleSod, book 2 is author SimonBrett’s second volume in this series of three comical books about the baby from hell. The baby in question is supposedly the author of this regular diary and so everything is recorded from the baby’s point of view. That is not only part of the joke but adds immensely to the appeal and novelty of the idea of the book.
The books are written in a diary entry format having twelve chapters, one for each month. Each month has numerous entries according to when something happened i.e. Day 2, Day 4, Day 7 etc. These entries are devoted to events in the baby’s day, a new ability mastered or a running commentary on this tiny megalomaniac’s increasing hold over its hopeless parents while en route to surely world domination.
The first book in this series, How...

Advantages: Gripping and fun to read Disadvantages: Won't win any literature awards
...Introduction
SimonBrett's name is familiar to me as the author of the bestselling How to Be a LittleSod, which I thoroughly enjoyed, so when I found out that he also wrote crime fiction, I was intrigued. It didn't take me all that long to get through the book, but every minute was great fun. As a piece of literature, it doesn't really show up on the radar, but as entertainment, it deserves full marks.
The plot
Suzy Longthorne, former model, now runs an exclusive country house hotel in Sussex. Short of staff, she calls in her long-term friend, Jude to help out with the waitressing for an important meeting of the Pillars of Sussex, a sort of Masonic society. During the evening, much drinking takes place, so no-one is surprised when one of the guests, a solicitor called Nigel Ackford doesn't turn up for breakfast the next morning...

Advantages: Entertaining and light Disadvantages: Some holes in the plot
...SimonBrett is probably best known for his book entitled How to Be a LittleSod, which has been televised starring Rik Mayall. He is, however, also a prolific writer of crime novels and has written two series, one featuring Mrs Pargeter, and the other, the Fethering mysteries. This book is the first in the series of the Fethering mysteries. I have previously read another in the series and so knew what to expect - a light, somewhat fluffy read that is nevertheless highly entertaining.
The story
Carole Seddon, who has lived in Fethering since her early retirement from the Home Office a while before, is horrified to find the body of a dead man on the beach while walking her dog one morning. What is worse is that she sees the injuries he has received and knows he must have been murdered. However, when she reports the murder to the police...

A diary of babyhood which confirms what every parent suspects - that within every little bundle of joy lies a manipulative, relentless tyrant. It demonstrates that every stage of babyhood is merely a means of creating demoralization sufficient to achieve total subjugation of the adult world.
