You are reading about a submersible pump by Hozelock, designed to fit into your water butt, and provide a supply of water suitable for watering your garden. Simple idea, and a good one too. It will feed water with enough pressure to provide a decent spray. A very good idea in these days of hose pipe bans.
I did a review on a drill operated pump, not a bad idea I thought, a cheap option, especially if you only have a limited amount to shift, although someone suggested that a drill operated pump is a bit of a waste, why not get a real pump? Good thinking, good point. I have baled out strip footings with a bucket before now, and must say any sort of pump is an improvement. A proper submersible one is ideal.
I must admit I was thinking of adapting my drill operated gizmo to fit my water butt, but having used one of these, I know which I would rather have.
The only little niggle I have, is that there is no pressure cut-off switch, so if it is run with the outlet closed (spray gun turned off) the pump is running wildly with no flow, which is not good for any pump.
This model is made by Hozelock, which is a good reputable firm, and the company that makes all the snap on water fittings. The power supply is standard 240 volt electrics. The High visibility yellow pump has a built in filter, and the guarantee is two years. The pump casing is plastic so corrosion is not an issue.Hozelock does have it's own website, although I have tried to access it and it is down at the moment. Try it yourself - www.hozelock.com/watering/I021.asp?region=ROW
The pump can also be used to empty drains, small swimming pools and ponds etc. Being submerged there is no need to prime it either. The noise is virtually nil for the same reason. The mains lead is impressive at ten metres, over thirty feet, and the pump also comes complete with a standard snap on outlet connector (probably the same as the one on your outside tap).
Maximum head height is 11Metres. Just in case someone does not understand that, the head is the height the water can be pumped above the pump, in this case over thirty feet!. The output is 2200 Litres per hour. That (in real money) is 380 gallons per hour.
Maximum particle size is 4mm diameter. This is just the size of dirt the filter will stop, anything smaller should go through the system. The motor is a very respectable 300 Watts. Very good. Maximum Water Temperature must be under 35 ° Centigrade. Above that the output is reduced.
Guarantee is 2 Years. Height is only 24cm. Diameter is about 15cm.
The list price of these is actually a massive £79, but we will not pay that, especially at this time of year. You will find these at a very reasonable price. The cheapest I have seen them is £37.49, this was at Argos (advert was on www.twenga.co.uk) however I have checked the Argos website and this appears at £49.99, so perhaps they have revised their prices. I advise you to shop around, especially at this time of year.
There you have it, a well recommended pump. I would advise using a circuit breaker just for added safety.
