...I discovered a bottle of HUGO BOSS DARK BLUE and having no beer to drink, I thought I'd review this stuff instead. (No, of course I didn't drink it.)
HBDB comes in a rather attractive, urn-shaped, dark blue bottle (well, they could hardly have it in a green one now, could they?). The bottle has a grey top which hides a spray nozzle beneath. But you don't want to read a description of the bottle, do you? Thought not.
Let's splash ... ...quid for a 75ml bottle, let's not bother.
Instead, I'll just spray a tottie-wee dribble and see what it smells like.
Its quite a clean, fresh smelling fragrance. It's neither overbearingly sweet, nor heavily musky, but somewhere between those two extremes. The makers claim that...och, I'll just quote them, shall I?

It's that time of the year again. You know, when everyone drowns in a sea of unwanted fragrances and aftershaves. Fox ache, I have so many unused bottles of 'smellies' kicking around I could liberally bathe in the stuff...liberally, but not literally. In fact, I have more bottles of aftershave than faces to shave... It's not really surprising, as these things make easy gifts. But what is surprising, is that my son is in almost the same position regarding unwanted aftershave. Why surprising? Because he bears more resemblance to Robinson Crusoe or Wurzel Gummidge than a clean-cut, clean-shaven, matinee idol (like yours truly!).
Rummaging around at his house the other day (as you do), I discovered a bottle of HUGO BOSS DARK BLUE and having no beer to drink, I thought I'd review this stuff instead. (No, of course I didn't drink it.) HBDB comes in a rather attractive, urn-shaped, dark blue bottle (well, they could hardly have it in a green one now, could they?). The bottle has a grey top which hides a spray nozzle beneath. But you don't want to read a description of the bottle, do you? Thought not.
Let's splash it all over...
Actually at around 30 quid for a 75ml bottle, let's not bother.
"Dark Blue is a refreshing, woody, mossy fragrance. A blend of citrus oranges, oakmoss, sandalwood and patchouli."
It's certainly a little woody, almost a faint pine resin quality about it, but I can't say I sense anything mossy. The sweet side of the fragrance difinitely hints at citrus fruit and oranges in particular, while I'm not exactly sure what sandalwood smells like, so I'll have to concede on that one. And as for patchouli, nope, not a trace.
I would say the fragrance leans more towards the fruity, citrus-like spectrum but without being overly sweet and sickly. It lasts quite well, but I had the impression that the pleasantness of the aroma diminished over time. From a refreshing, clean aroma to a bit more dusty and almost slightly 'past-it'. Maybe that's the moss kicking in?
What about reaction after shaving? No idea, I didn't use it after shaving. but I'd imagine it probably nips a wee bit...what am I saying? it's aftershave man, of course it'll nip!
In conclusion, I thought this a pretty average fragrance. Nothing to get excited about...but then, the day I get excited about an aftershave is the day I'll know my life's gone one step beyond sad. On the other hand, there's nothing offensive about it either. having said that, I'd be reluctant to pay premium prices for what is essentially a run-of-the-mill aftershave. Albeit one that's in a fancy bottle.
...the wonderful staying power of Hugo Boss Blue.
I have to meet lots of people at work for different meetings and it is essential that I smell good to make the right impression. I therefore need an emergency aftershave in the car for when meetings take me by suprise. Blue is an aftershave that really does last.
I know this because my wife always asks me "who are you trying to impress at work?"
So If im squirting at 8:30am and getting in at 6pm, ... ...very clean, fresh smelling fragrance. Not your sweet smelling types such as the Calvin Kleins or Issey Miyake types. It is not at the other extreme of musky type fragrances such as Pi. Instead it falls somewhere in between that is both pleasant on the nose and on on the skin.
Irritabilty.
Like I have just said, it does not burn or cause rashes. If you have just shaved it obviously stings a bit but all aftershaves do.
Bottle.
Its a small egg shaped ...

Advantages: unique; different; distinctive Disadvantages: not to everyone's tastes
So, does nobody use Hugo Boss or what??!! And come on lads, let's hear your ideas on how to look and smell better. I'm on my own here! Normally, I'm a strictly Dolce & Gabbana smelling kind of chap. It's a pretty safe bet and the ladies like it. However, a couple of weeks back I saw the telly ad for Hugo Boss Dark Blue aftershave. The image of the dark, mysterious, cheeky chappie in the advert getting it on with the lady who was none the wiser was ... ...went to my local high street store (Boots) to try it. I wasn't disappointed. It has a very distinctive scent and it gives you a spicy feel. Not like curry powder! More like cinnamon or something. I'm not sure what is in it but you know what it is and you can't quite put your finger on it. Probably why the fella is so mysterious cos it's a mystery to me what's in it! Convinced by the saving to be made on buying the larger bottle, I parted with my ...

Advantages: Strong, lasting, masculine scents Disadvantages: plastic nozzel top
...bought my first bottle of Hugo Boss in Debenhams a few years ago and I have never been disapointed. I have just finished a bottle of Hugo Boss Blue, I got it with points I collected. It comes in a blue bottle which is attractive and robust, the plastic nozzel for the spray is not as hard but does the job.
THe scent is spicy but the main feature of it is the length it lasts.
THis stuff goes all day. I used it in the morning and it gave my confidence ... ...after 12 hours.
I replaced it with the Boss red just for a change but it does not seem to last as long. THere are about 5 scents in the Boss range but they are all similar, some are just milder or stronger although they retain the same distinctive scent. THey also have matching eau de toilette scents which cost slightly less. Pay about £34 for a bottle of aftershave. For an aftershave the Boss scent is very suitable, not too perfumey.
I recommend ...

Advantages: Original smell, great packaging Disadvantages: Pricey, possibly a more mature smell
...Why it's a bottle of Hugo Dark Blue that I was given as a gift oh so many years ago!! Despite the age I still member thinking it smelt something like a badger with halitosis and a limp might wear to try and attract a mate as opposed to myself.
Having said that I believe I may have simply been too immature to appreciate the smell as my more developed senses now find this rather pleasant. My tastes in food have completely changed and it would hold ... ...smell.
Dark Blue actually comes across as a very fresh and original smell, for me it is very sweet smelling and has a definite citrus edge to it without being overpowering. I would not recommend using loads of this at once though as that could soon change - keep it subtle. Dark Blue comes in a big bottle which explains the price tag, but it will last for a long time (especially if you hate it when you get it like I used to :-p ). Used sparingly ...

Advantages: smells great, not too expensive for the time it lasts you Disadvantages: none that i can find
the lynx effect, Pah! this aftershave is far better than any lynx you will ever find on this earth. It gives you a bit of class and makes you irrisistable with the ladys; that is to say if you havn't fallen out the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. There are usually some pretty good offers on this aftershave if you shop around, its available in eau de toilette, deoderant and showergel aswell. Why not get the full set? To be honest, ... ...a bottle of aftershave. It does its job well, and it doesn't sting after you have shaved.
I would describe the smell as sweet but not sickly. It's not a heavy musky smell. It's quite youthful, a hit with the younger generation; not that it doesnt work well on the older generation to :).
If your not sure, go and have a whiff. But i recommend this to all men ...

Advantages: fresh, sophisticated yet versatile fragrance Disadvantages: a tad expensive
.
HugoBossdarkblue is definately an obvious choice for the refined gentlemen although it can be worn by a teenager just as well as it can be worn by a grandfather at his grandson's wedding. This last point exemplifies the sheer versatility of HugoBossdarkblue. For example, it can just as easily be worn to a night at the opera followed by drinks in the cabaret bar, just as well as it can be worn out for a heavy clubbing session in Leicester Square!
The fragrance:
If heaven had a scent then surely sampling HugoBossdarkblue would be like sampling heaven itself. It is a classic and subtle smelling aftershave, not overpowering in the slightest but it definately does not go unnoticed! On many occasions I have been complimented on my smell when meeting up with girls who are definately impressed by the classy smell of HugoBossdark ...
Advantages: Cool bottle Disadvantages: Smells nasty, is expensive, stuns females within a 10 metre radius
Tonight the badger will be reviewing DarkBlue EDT by HugoBoss.
The title might give away my feelings for this aftershave just a teeny bit, but I will try to give a balanced opinion.
DarkBlue came into my collection as a gift last Christmas and upon opening the wrapping paper I was impressed by the actual look for the aftershave. The bottle is shaped like an urn, the bottom two thirds of the bottle being darkblue in colour whilst the top third has a metallic finish. The metal top screws off to reveal an atomiser that dispenses the fragrance.
The darkblue colouring combined with the actual shape are unique and give off a HugoBoss feel of style and quality.
The notes to DarkBlue build it up as a light citrus fragrance with subtle hints of nutmeg, which should make it warm, refreshing and ideal the man about town. Aimed ...
