I bought my husband a Hugo Boss Energisegift set for his Christmas, he has a few Hugo Boss fragrances and he likes the smell of them as do I. Inside the gift set there was a bottle of Energise Eau De Toilette, a tube of shower gel and shaving balm. The gift set wasn't that expensive and only cost me £30 for all three items; when I'm buying perfumes I tend to always buy gift sets because they are better value for money. The Hugo Boss Energise shower gel can also be bought on its own from most department stores if you don't want
to buy a gift set.
As you can see from the picture at the top of this review the shower gel is supplied in a silver coloured tube which has a chunky silver screw on/off lid. I think that the tube of shower gel has really simple colouring and design; yet it still looks masculine and stylish. I prefer shower gels which have see through packaging simply because you can easily see how much of it you are using and how much is remaining inside the tube/bottle. In this instance the packaging isn't see through, which doesn't really bother me because this is my husbands shower gel and not mines.
Now most of the time when I purchase perfumed shower gels or moisturisers which compliment a fragrance I am really disappointed with them because their consistency is either too thick or too runny, or they don't smell nice. But in this instance the shower gel is actually quite thick; it is colourless and resembles a clear gel. The shower gel lathers up fairly quickly because it is quite thick; although you do get more of a lather with this if you use a sponge; if you apply it using your hands you will notice that you don't really get much of a lather and you have to use a lot more of it. If you apply the shower gel using a sponge you will only have to use a small blob the size of a 20 pence piece in order to get fully washed with. After you have bathed using this shower gel you will notice that your skin feels a little softer than before and of course it will smell highly fragranced.
The fragrance from the body wash is gorgeous and most definitely masculine, it smells really similar to the perfume/aftershave. The fragrance which this shower gel leaves on your skin is fairly long lasting, you should still notice the fragrance lingering on your skin a few hours after you have bathed/showered. The scent which the shower gel leaves on your skin is quite strong although its not overpowering and wont mask any deodorants you choose to wear. You will also notice that the smell from the shower gel lingers in the bathroom for an hour or so after you have used it; and I think it makes the bathroom smell really nice even although it is a manly fragrance.
The actual fragrance from the shower gel is almost identical to the perfume although it doesn't seem to have the woody earthy fragrance which reflects the base notes of the perfume. The shower gel also has a much lighter fresher scent than the perfume does although the fragrance from the shower gel does linger on the skin for a good few hours. The shower gel has a lovely spicy fruity aroma which has an ever so subtle floral undertone; although there is a slight floral undertone this doesn't give the fragrance a feminine scent, it is most definitely a masculine scent. There is a wide range of fragrance notes in Hugo Boss Energise although the most prominent and identifiable ones are the Melon, Pink Pepper, Mandarin, Freesia, Cardamom and Amyris Woods.
Hugo Boss Energise perfume and shower gel are described as having blends of Pink Pepper, Mandarin, Kumquat, Melon, ambrette, juniper, white freesia, cardamom, coriander, jacaranda wood, nubuck leather, suede note, black cocoa and amyris woods.
If you use the shower gel before applying the perfume to your skin you will notice that this gives the fragrance more staying power; because you are applying a base for the perfume to stick to. Although I doubt that you need to layer the scent of Energise because it is a really long lasting fragrance. People who have slightly dry skin will find that the scent doesn't last long on their skin so therefore you might have to layer the scent in order to achieve better staying power.
Hugo Boss Energise can be bought from most larger department stores such as Boots or Debenhams. You can also purchase it from online retailers too although prices may differ depending on where you purchase it from so it is a good idea to look around for the best deal possible. A 125ml tube of Energise can be bought from Debenhams and costs £17, as well as the shower gel you can also purchase other Energise fragranced products to compliment and layer the scent of the perfume/aftershave.
125ml Shower Gel £17-19 75ml bottle Energise aftershave £20-24 (aftershave has less staying power than an Eau De Toilette/Parfum)
75ml bottle Energize Eau De Toilette £24-30 (has great staying power approx 10-12 hours)
