Well I've got my philosophy...
Advantages: Teaching staff are very responsive. Disadvantages: Ethics. Eugh.
...my second year of my philosophy degree at Kent in September, and at the moment I am really enjoying it.
The course suits me down to the ground. I like to think and reason (and generally feel intellectually superior to others) and the course enables me to do all of this.
The way that the University structures its course is 8 units split over two terms which allows you to chose a wide variety of courses.
There are then some course from your degree ... ...these are Metaphysics and Ethics. (Metaphysics I loved, Ethics I didn't enjoy as much - it was my least favourite subject).
However, the freedom to choose the subjects you want to do is great. You can tailor your degree to suit you. I even ended up doing a course on fairy tales which I really enjoyed and which also counts towards my degree. ...

Fairy tales
Advantages: Fairy tales are cool. Disadvantages: Some boring stuff to read.
I'm not actually studying Comparitive Literary Studies (or CLS) but the beauty of the way that Kent Uni works is that you can take random course to complete your schedule.
So I chose one called 'The Tale' which was about fairy tales. This was probably one of my favourite course. Aside from all the fine ladies that seem to take this course, it is really interesting to disect fairy tales and to discover where they came from.

A novel read
Advantages: It's easy to get into with some interesting obtainable knowledge. Disadvantages: The ending isn't disapointing, but could have bee better, still, as i say, it's metaphorical.
As i am currently studying English Literature, i've come across some new texts, some have been a pleasure to read, others have simply driven me up the wall, one of my texts was CHAUCER, the fact that it is in ye olde english isn't particularly helpful.
Anyhow, one book i read was a novel caled "Snow Falling On Cedars," written by David Guterson.
The novel is set in the 1950's and is a murder case that revolves sround a set of flashbacks mainly ... ...contains three main characters,
Hatsue Miyamoto,
Kabuo Miyamoto,
Ishmael Chambers.
The general plot is the death of a fisherman raise questions about the innocence of a local japanese fisherman which helps demonstrate issues of race and trust in a small community, as well as the murder/accident debate, you recieve a deep insight into the Pearl harbour bombing and the Japanese attack, which if i'm not mistaken has recently been made into a multi ...
