LLB Distance Learning at the Nottingham Law School
Advantages: Part time available, easy method of study, ongoing support Disadvantages: 4 years part time as opposed to 3. Difficult subject matter
...good old fashioned LLB (Hons) Law degree part time, and on a distance learning place, then I must say Nottingham has rightfully emerged as the triumphant winner!
Primarily, because it is the only university in the country that offers it (as far as I am aware). The course will start in September, and provided you have a full unconditional offer and the funds you will be able to get on the legal knowledge train and disembark upon a career within the ... ...traditionally difficult aspects of the Law to get your teeth into, and the course modules are as follows;
Contract
Criminal Law
English Legal Method
European Law
Tort
There are twelve modules, eight of which are compulsory and the main methods of learning are based on studying text and cases, additional information is available from the online electronic library. For enrolment details:

University of Nottingham: English Studies
Advantages: Scope for learning more than just literature; Good tutors Disadvantages: Not quite sure what it wants to be; Old English is pointless
...on the joys of Old English grammar. There are no positives about this module, and thankfully I withdrew before I had to do this coursework.
-Drama. Before you worry, you are not being assessed by any acting talent you may have, but rather you're interpretation of the set plays (English 1500s onward in first year). You do have to act though, but it IS NOT assessed.
On top of that, there are extra credits which need to be filled; you can do this ... ...sciences or languages (I did Arabic and Cognitive Psychology).
-Quality of teaching. Overall, this was very good and I felt that if I had any problems with the work I could speak to my tutors about it. Whenever I emailed them with a small problem it was swiftly resolved. -Quality of lectures. I found these to be a bit hit and miss. Some were really informative, and others tended to ramble and go off the topic.
-Quality of facilities. The main library ...

Politics @ Nottingham University
Advantages: Good choice of modules Disadvantages: Lack of contact with students before start of Uni.
I'm a joint honours Politics & French student at the University currently.
The politics department is based in the Law and Social Sciences Building which is next door the the main library on campus. The building itself is OK though i've found it difficult finding a couple of rooms a couple of times early on in first year. The department is fairly well organized, though I don't feel I recieved enough information about the department before starting ... ...The modules on offer are good, theres a wide range and some really interesting and relevant topics are covered.
Assessments are essays and written examinations... usually either 50/50 split of 25/75 (essay/exam). The essay questions I have found genuinely interesting (such as assess the role of the UN in Rwanda) so i've found working on them fairly easy and enjoyable. The exams particulaly one that was multiple choice were pretty challenging but ...

Joint Honours American Studies and English
Advantages: spending a year in North America, a variety of modular-based courses to choose from both within and outside of your department Disadvantages: lots of reading to do
...impressed....so my mum says regarding American Studies. A lot of my friends who are also on the joint honours course with me have also mentioned this particular "generation" viewpoint. However, all American Studies is specifically in a joint honour degree in Nottingham, is a focus on American Literature...not so fancy after all.
Let me just say if you choose to do American Studies by itself then you will be essentially studying both American history/culture ... ...In fact, a study of American literature adds a new dimension to studying literature at A-level (which mostly deal with English texts, at least in my case it was).
Nottingham University assesses its students on its modular-based courses, in which you sit exams/submit courseworks in January and then in June, this in a way has its advantages because it means that there is likely to be less pressure and stress when exam leave comes around; the exams ...

LEARN ABOUT HENRY VIII AND BE A MANAGING DIRECTOR
Advantages: see op Disadvantages: see op
...school days and recall your History lessons, you probably remember an ageing, eccentric, bespectacled, frizzy haired and shabbily clothed old bat who would be better suited playing Mrs Overall on Acorn Antiques than teaching a bunch of children the intricacies of history. You probably only ever learnt about how bad Hitler was or how Britain rose from nothing to create the Industrial Revolution. This probably put you off studying history. If it didn’t, ... ...realised that studying History is both interesting, useful and utterly enjoyable. Now this isn’t an opinion on studying History at Nottingham University; unfortunately on Ciao they lump individual subjects into a particular University and do not stand alone. Instead I want to break down the stereotype that a History degree is only good if you want to be a History teacher or a Librarian. This couldn’t be less true, but most people do not ...
