This is a good looking box, not the most attractive I’ve ever seen nor the smallest but overall it looks good. It has a stylish matt aluminium front with a nice strip of light blue plastic running left to right; this features all the buttons in so it does look good. A huge advantage is that it features a lot of buttons. I know a lot of set top boxes that can only be controlled by the remote, and if you lose that, well you might as well throw the box away. With this box it is just not the case and is very useful if you want to use it as a digital radio as well. The front also features a LED clock or a channel number display depending if the box is powered on or not; this could be an advantage or a disadvantage, depending on how you look at it. My view is that it is a disadvantage; I had to open the box up and block it out so I could get some sleep without being woken up by the harsh green glow. However not everyone will have this in their bedroom and I do like having a clock below my TV, you can make your own mind up about whether it’s a good thing or not.
The sockets this box features I would describe as almost legendary, it has all of the correct scarts that you would need, including an input so you can use your VCR when the main box is off, many boxes don’t feature this and for me it’s a must have! On top of this it has the obvious ariel input but what sets it apart from most is it also has a UHF output as well, this is extremely useful for the older TV’s without scarts and for the TV's, like mine which has a slight ghosting of the analogue signal underneath the AV picture, if you set the channel below it to the UHF output your picture is crisp and bright! Also useful are full independent component outputs; excellent for the older TV and the home cinema system, it also has a strange little socket for updating the software off the internet; however no specialist cable is supplied for it. Finally it has an infra-red output.
Usually my reviews are centred on the disadvantages but this has so few that I will start by listing my personal favourite advantages;
-UHF output Already mentioned (see above)
-Front Buttons Particularly useful when the Remote is lost or when you can’t be bothered to find it!
-7-day EPG An excellent feature removing the need for the radio times, it shows you all of the upcoming shows, even those on digital, for up to a week in advance. It also allows you to schedule your watching. This does however have a design fault, it lacks memory so does not always display your show’s detailed info; I will go into more detail later on.
-Large easy Remote Zapper, controller, channel changer; whatever you call it this box has an excellent one, including the rare feature of the ability to program it to control your TV’s basic functions!
-Interactive Services Some cheaper models don’t feature this so it’s always best to check; it has all of the available Interactive features fast and smooth; unlike many other boxes I am familiar with!
-Games This is a rather unique feature. It includes 3 rather similar but all the same entertaining simple arcade games to keep you entertained when there really is nothing on!Well those are my advantages, and they really are plentiful and it deserves to be WHICH’s best buy, however one thing let’s this box down considerably and that is it’s inability to store the detailed information about each show for a period of time longer than an hour; this severely lets this box down, along with the occasional hang-up that most electronic devices do. If you can overlook this feature I would severely recommend this Set-Top-Box as next to Sky’s FreeSat it really is the Best one on the market!

The Humax F2-FOX T is a stylish compact brushed metal freeview box. The company Humax has been around for a number of years making good quality freeview and satellite receivers.
For the technophobes this is easy to set up - connect up the right cables using the easy to understand diagram. Scart to TV, aerial into freeview socket and you can also connect a VCR if needed. Once you have switched it on the box will search for all ... ...channels pay channels which you can get through your aerial). But besides this it does everything a Freeview Box should and has been extremely reliable. You can buy this at John Lewis or through any Humax reseller for about £60 - £70. For the best bargain try googling the name. ...

Advantages: Easy to use, good quality Disadvantages: Faulty memory
...http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds15946.html you will see that Humax have been promising to "Fix" this problem for over a year. The problem is the information key for the programme synopsis that should show programme detail. It works for an hour or so and then disappears. Unfortunately this is exactly the function that makes EPG so useful - who wants to see just a title when you should be seeing the kind of programme information that you get ... ...to the TV magazine to read the synopsis instead of just pressing the Information button. Pointless and irritating when other boxes will do exactly what I want. It was my first digital box and now I have used it a lot the missing ingredient is exactly the one you wll want.
In other words don't buy this box, it's not fit for purpose. Despite it's other quality ratings what is the point of purchasing something that is missing a key function! That's ...

Advantages: Well built, good look, intelligently structured firmware. Games!?!?! Disadvantages: I did not work very well & kept crashing!
Everything about this box is excellent and worth the extra money. It is well built, it has an LED display indicating the channel, it looks great, the remote is good and the functionality or rather the useability of the menus is well thought out. Oh and there are 3 neat little games for you to play.
BUT
It is unfortunately let down by the low level software that is used to display the picture / programme info / audio sync.
The box (I tried 2) or ... ...about 4 hours of being on: 1st the programme info would not be available (the info box would pop up on request, but no text) then getting certain channels would take a long time then becomming unavailable, then lip-syncing would go before the whole thing would come to a grinding halt after about 24hrs.
The only way to reset the thing (even though there is an 'off' button) is to unplug it.

Advantages: Offers most of features you would expect on higher priced units Disadvantages: Only available in silver
either be used to create higher quality pictures (in the same way that CD compares to Vinyl sound) *or* for a broadly similar quality of picture, introduce more channels.
We therefore find ourselves with the capability of getting an extra 30 TV channels using our existing TV aerial, and the extra benefit of picking up digital radio stations as well.
The HUMAXF2-FOXT set-top-box is aimed squarely at the economy end of high-end Digital receivers - that is to say - it offers all the features, but doesn't come with the same high price as the more traditional brands.
I paid around eighty quid for my box, at Sainsburys of all places! The specification is pretty much up there with 'first tier' manufacturers such as Sony, but is around 30% cheaper.
The package is a rather uninspiring silver-grey box (no black option I'm afraid, I'll have ...
