Recording Digital TV to Hard Disc - Must Have

Advantages: 14day Electronic Programme Guide-Simultaneously Watch a recording and record 2 other programmes
Disadvantages: The temporarily restricted power of terrestrial digital transmissions

This gadget is a Twin Tuner 'Digital Video Recorder' (DVR), or 'Personal Video Recorder' (PVR) which records to its own 80GB Hard Disc Drive. It can receive and record Digital Terrestrial (received through a rooftop aerial) Free-to-air TV At around £125 (£90 'refurbished') it is not much more expensive than a video recorder but can do a lot more. In many areas the extra cost of an aerial upgrade needs to be taken into account but no monthly fee or other subscription is needed, and there is no facility for decoding pay-per-view digital programmes (TUTV) We watch a lot of TV but have to hunt for anything interesting and the FVRT200 makes this as easy as possible. Because it displays lists of all programmes for 2 weeks ahead, with synopses, on the TV screen where they can be selected, the amount of button pressing is minimised ...

Review of Digifusion FVRT200 Digital Video Recorder

A brilliant digital TV receiver/recorder.

Advantages: Excellent picture on playback/recordings. Easy to use. Comprehensive list of features
Disadvantages: TV guide takes ages to load. Manual could be slightly better. Plasticky remote.

With the upcoming Digital TV switchover, I decided to buy this to make sure I could receive Freeview and to record my favourite shows without the hassle of tapes and rewinding/fast-forwarding. A large 160GB hard drive should be plentiful for most users The unit itself is very stylish, with a stunning mirror-effect silver front with a clear, informative blue LED display reminiscent of some of Denon's mini Hi-Fi systems. A flap on the front panel hides the USB and Top-Up-Tv card sockets. The remote control feels rather plasticky in comparison, but it is well laid-out with big buttons and a sliding panel conceals some of the receiver's extra functions, such as the Picture-In-Picture and the various playback modes. Around the back, there are the usual SCART (which is RGB enabled for enhanced picture quality), aerial and audio outputs ...

Review of Humax PVR9200T

A Happy Humax Viewer

Advantages: ease of setting up. Good on screen info. easy to use.
Disadvantages: none that I have found

I had a Touch Box 4 freesat box which, quite frankly was a waste of time. The Humax box has been a revelation. We watch our programs all the time through it now. My first impression was its small neat size, not dominant at all in the cabinet. Living in the "sticks" I was stuck with 4 channels and quite poor picture quality. I only have an SD TV but the picture quality has improved considerably. It is sharp with good colours. My last set had manual set up but the Humax is fully automatic. I had trouble inputting the post code. It would not accept the space using either the handset or on screen system. So, I tried the code without the space and it worked. It is so easy, even I could do it (at 73, I do sometimes have problems). I only have 2 minor criticisms of the unit. I have to set the volume to maximum to obtain the required ...
