Tasty Reading
Review of Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe - Fannie Flagg by
TheChocolateLady
Advantages: Interesting characters, unique story telling, oh and... well, just about everything!
Disadvantages: Might ruin the movie for you, but I doubt that.
Rarely does one get the chance to first enjoy the movie and then afterwards read the book and enjoy it just as much. This is one of those rare occasions, and I'm pleased to review it.
Let me start off by saying that I found the movie to be enchanting, with believable characters, an interesting plot and great acting. What I realized only after reading the book was that the movie was only the tip of the iceberg. This just may mean that those who read ... ...I think I got it right - movie first, book afterwards.
Fannie Flagg has put tons of charm in this book, without letting it get sappy or sentimental. This is a major achievement, especially when we recall that some of the issues addressed here can be very controversial - including such things as the KKK*, family abuse, segregation and more.
Flagg leaves us with little to no illusions as to the general attitudes of southerners towards these issues, ...

the strange, the pointless, and the ugly
Review of Flanimals - Ricky Gervais by
Punkychik
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
Flanimals is a book of not-quite-real animals, which has been created and compiled by Ricky Gervais. Flanimals is the first in a currently expanding series and features characters originally designed to entertain a younger relative. Ricky invites us into his wild and creative imagination which can only be said to appeal to people of all ages. The book is unlike anything Gervais has done before, so don't be put off if you're not a fan of Gervais' ... ...and lifestyle. All of the Flanimals have a very pointless lifestyle, with Gervais making them sound even more pointless and ridiculous than they already would. Each description encapsulates Gervais' humour with open-ended question and insults. Its amazing the amount of humour he can fit into a few lines of text. Whilst the common names of the Flanimals are hilarious, its worth the time to read the Latin names which are more outrageous, and appear ...

The surreal mind of Harry Hill
Review of Flight From Deathrow - Harry Hill by
Griffin000
Advantages: Funny, Silly, Absurd, Surreal, Bizarre
Disadvantages: If you don't like Harry Hill you won't like this
Many of you will know that Harry Hill is a stand-up comedian and a brilliant one at that. Many of you may not know that he has written a fictional novel and that it is probably the most surreal and humorous book in the whole world!!
I’ve been a huge fan of Harry Hill for ages, he leaves my stitches whenever I go and see his impressive live shows or whenever I re-watch one of his videos. You may have seen his programme on ITV1 ‘Harry Hills TV Burp’ ... ...The surreal and absurd nature of the book begins on the front cover which shows a picture of a stunt motorcyclist jumping over 6 people, however, the motorcyclist is Harry Hill as are the six people on the floor. Each Harry Hill face is making an odd expression! But onto the contents in the book itself.
Just before the start the first chapter you’ll find a page which says ‘Please note’ this explains the typographical error on the front cover of ...
