Advantages: Funny in places and poignant Disadvantages: Not his best work
I have read books that have long drawn out chapters, I have read books that have short punchy three page chapters, I have read books written as diaries and even a book written entirely as e-mails but this was the first book that I have read that had no chapters and hence no sign posted markers to when you could consider taking a pause from reading instead this book is basically made up of two separate journals which record the thoughts and life experiences ... ...to start a family.
The story is set in London with the married couple Sam and Lucy Bell both enjoying reasonably successful careers, Sam with the BBC while Lucy works for an entertainment agency with a number of film and TV stars on their books. It was Lucy idea for both parties to maintain a secret journal to record their thoughts as secretly she hoped that it would make Sam open up with regards to his feelings as she felt him to be rather cold ...

"the zoo called, They want you back"
Advantages: Funny, Original, pointlessly fun Disadvantages: Pointlessly fun
...“I am a dirty dish, I go in the dish water not the sink, this is here ----> put me in there” or the brilliant “I am milk, I live in the fridge, when you're done with me, put me in my home”. She could well have either of those in the “I lick my cheese” chapter...
…So that cleverly brings me on to the part of this review that concerns the chapters of the book, that book is split into 4 rather separate chapters based on the different parts of that ... ...the TV. Though some of the notes are quite difficult to read, this is mainly due to nature, we all have different handwriting, some are easy to read, some (my own included) are really difficult. This is about the only major fault with the book that I can pick out. ...

I think I lost my soul!
Advantages: Some fantastic Metaphors as ever with Clarkson Disadvantages: Much more specialist than his other books
...of machines on Top Gear I thought I couldn't go wrong with this book, I was mistaken...
Although I read the blurb and knew this book was more machine orientated, the witty quotes on the back enticed me to buy it and read more... I shouldn't have. They were in fact the only witty quotes and although I learned a thing or two about ships and dams I was left cold by the clinical reviews of these machines. It was more a little boys wishist of things ...

'Is it just me or is everything shit?' An excellent read.
Advantages: The humour factor, and the realisation that most of these views are shared by many people. Disadvantages: As it's quite an easy read it won't take up much of your time, although that's not always bad.
'Is It Just Me or Is Everything Shit?' - The Encyclopedia of Modern Life - Alan McArthur This book is hilarious! I could not stop laughing throughout. It is set out in subject paragraphs, each one having a specific criticism to point out. I think these guys have a pretty pessimistic view of most things, and that is why I found it such a great read. They are simply grumpy old men who moan and complain about the smallest of things, whilst oozing intelligence ...

ABI TITMUSS (AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR)
Advantages: A fun look at the festive season Disadvantages: Far too short a book!
"Children: - 'Christmas is for the children.' Repeat this ten times when you're trying to park at the supermarket on Christmas Eve because you've forgotten the cranberry sauce."
Let's cut to the chase - Christmas is shite. Whether you're a shopkeeper, teacher, bin man or nurse the run up to the festive season is one long headache on a path to lots of short headaches. The shops are packed, roads busy, your bank account takes a battering as do your ... ...abroad without first having to play that very British of Christmas games - guess when the fog will lift so your plane can take off. But despair not, you are not alone. Hot on the trail of the books 'Is it me or is everything shit' Volumes 1 & 2; comes 'I'm Dreaming of a Shite Christmas' a witty tome in which R.J. Clarke examines the season of goodwill in what he subtly calls 'A festive guide to overcooked sprouts, charades and giblets.' Who amongst ...
