A fictional cartoon?
Review of Love Is Hell - Matt Groening by
C_W_Monkey
Advantages: Very very funny
Disadvantages: It's actually very factual! (lol)
...but I'm sure she'll agree, love is hell. That's what this book goes into describing in a comical way. Furthermore, it's both funny and factual!! I can actually relate to the "9 types of boyfriend"
It goes through different areas of relationships. Each page is one in a series, presumibly printed on a newspaper weekly or something when drawn. But it's all collected together in this book.
It then moves into some sections of "Life in hell" which are ... ...I'm a complete geek, I love finding things I didn't know were there. There's so much packed into these comics that there's always something to look at, or notice or whatever. So I love it! Despite being written in 1985, all the jokes are relevant now! I find this quite amazing that everything in it I can relate to.
Matt Groening is a fantastic artist. He's used bunny rabbits (which are already starting to resemble the simpsons characters) to convey ...

Review of Lady Cottingtons Pressed Fairy Book - Terry Jones by
DiazX
Advantages: Funny original idea wonderfully illustrated and put together
Disadvantages: Bit of a one trick pony
...are very good. Lady Cottington, the girl featured in the famous fairy photo which caused such a stir when it was first published in 1907, made fairy pressing her life time hobby. Of course no fairies are harmed in the process, in fact it was made an official sport at the Millennial Fairy Olympics in 1921, qualifying for the gooseberry medal. Angelica Cottington’s hand-written diary has entries from childhood to adulthood, “Aug 10th 1896 ... ...include a section sealed by Lady Cottington for the “protection of the innocent” which feature some suitably lewd goblins and a whole flock of fairies mooning!! There is also a pressed fairy vinyl sticker (the peelable sort that can be mounted on glass). The art work is superb throughout and the book never deviates from its premise, Terry Jones’ text is clever and witty but it’s difficult to know who this book is aimed at. ...

Just when you thought it safe, little sod returns
Review of Little Sod's Next Step (How to Be a Little Sod Book 2) - Simon Brett by
oldredeyes
Advantages: Very funny, easy to read
Disadvantages: leaves you wanting more
Little Sod’s next step, subtitled - How to be a little Sod, book 2 is author Simon Brett’s second volume in this series of three comical books about the baby from hell. The baby in question is supposedly the author of this regular diary and so everything is recorded from the baby’s point of view. That is not only part of the joke but adds immensely to the appeal and novelty of the idea of the book. The books are written in a diary entry format having ... ...series, How to be a Little Sod (subtitled How to be a Little Sod Book 1) has already been excellently reviewed by Ciao member JoJammy, a review I would definitely recommend reading. This first volume covers the baby’s first year. Book 2 is a natural progression through the next year of the tot’s life. No names are ever mentioned, even for the Baby and the parents are simply called Him and Her. This might seem an odd approach but it works.

About Women As A Hole
Review of Lesbianism Made Easy - Helen Eisenbach by
zoe_page
Advantages: Funny, unusual, interesting format
Disadvantages: Not long enough
...without a how-to guide to lesbianism - something no good bookshelf is complete without. Then one day, a nice chappy with a suitably unchaste username decided to fling it up for auction on eBay, and one week later it landed in my lap.
Lesson number 1: Though you may like the sound of the book when I eventually get round to telling you about it, acquiring a copy of your own may take some work and a well timed 99 pence bid. While we're at it, the UK ... ...the book. Helen, for this would appear to me to be the name she'd wish to be addressed by, starts off simply. There are a lot of misconceptions out there about the most straightforward things, so what good would a self-help manual on the subject be if it didn't first define lesbianism. And what better way to do that than with a quiz? Because you too might be a lesbian and, honestly, wouldn't you rather know now if so?
With this little matter cleared ...

Classic Clarkson: Hilarious
Review of Born to Be Riled - Jeremy Clarkson by
jonwebb5
Advantages: Very funny, huge variety of subject matter, lots of book for your money, informative, passionate
Disadvantages: Doesn't suit being read in one go, topics recycled and stale towards end
Born To Be Riled is good. It's probably not Jeremy Clarkson's best book, but it certainly makes for great reading, either as a bedtime book, where the short columns are ideal for a quick spell, on the commute or on holiday. It will certainly make you laugh, and the variety is great. It's just missing that little something.
The best, and in some cases worst, thing about Born To Be Riled is the fantastic scope of subject matter. Clarkson writes about ... ...connects you to the book. Born To Be Riled is humorous and interesting to read, and is very easy to pick up and get into, perhaps making it best read in short spells, allowing more attention to each individual column.
Born To Be Riled certainly has the wit and charm of Clarkson's other books, and the only thing that really lets it down is perhaps it is so long, that by the end, you've read about everything two or three times. However, it is definitely ...
