Everybody's Got To Be Somewhere
Review of Adolf Hitler: My Part in His Downfall - Spike Milligan by PJE_

Advantages: Funny and real.
Disadvantages: Ends before the shooting starts.

...have been four sequels to Adolf Hitler - My Part In His Downfall:- Rommel: Gunner Who? Monty: His Part In My Victory Mussolini: His Part In My Downfall Where Have All The Bullets Gone? After the war, Spike teamed up with Harry Secombe*, Peter Sellers and Michael Bentine to create that ground-breaking BBC radio comedy The Goon Show (1951-60). A manic depressive, the pressure of writing the weekly show led to a nervous breakdown. Later, his 1960's ... Read review

Extremely offensive book. Brilliant!
Review of The Bumper b3ta Book of Sick Jokes - Rob Manuel by davemandy

Advantages: New and hilarious jokes. Jest at everybody's expense.
Disadvantages: Could have been longer. Will cause offense to many.

This was written by the collective that is the b3ta community: Thousands of people who rank amongst the funniest of the Internetters. I bought this for a family member during Christmas and this book far exceeded its cost in entertainment value during Christmas Day. I would recommend this to everyone with a very open-minded sense of humour but beware; there are jokes in here which will offend every culture, race, sex, minority and the occasional ...
...and I think that if the BBFC covered books, this would not pass the 18 certificate. I have one complaint with this book: With all the content from which the website the jokes originated, a fraction of the excellent jokes made it into this book. This could have been longer and made me laugh for longer, but overall an excellent and refreshing diversion from the generic joke books. ... Read review

Off-beat, nostalgic & funny
Review of Home from the Vinyl Cafe: A Year of Stories - Stuart McLean by Bertie_Wooster

Advantages: It'll make you chuckle & warm the cockles in equal measure!
Disadvantages: It helps if you're a CBC fan

...strike the right note! Home from the Vinyl Cafe is a compendium of some of the stories first told on the radio and make the translation to printed form pretty well. Each story is pretty much self-contained, which is perfect for reading on the train. They feature Dave, who owns the Vinyl Cafe (motto - "We may not be big, but we're small"), his wife Morley, their children, and various pets, including a balding guinea pig and a neurotic dog. The style ...
...it justice. Strangely, I want to compare it to TV shows rather than anything literary - this may be related to the fact that I listened to the radio shows it before reading the book. There are certainly hints of nostagia for a rose-tinted childhood a la 'The Wonder Years' and off-beat yarns, reminiscent of 'Northern Exposure'. It answers those questions you always wanted to ask, like how do you unstick your tongue from a frozen TV aerial, and what ... Read review

Golf Crazy
Review of Driving Myself Crazy - Jessica Maxwell by Andy

Advantages: Funny
Disadvantages: Womans perspective

Breezy and offbeat, Driving Myself Crazy is Jessica's first-person account of her golfing education--the teachers, the theories, the mistakes and misadventures, and the confidence she feels once her game begins to improve. Celebrating the sport one pro claims is 80 percent physical for beginners and 85 percent mental once you know what you're doing, Driving Myself Crazy, is an engaging and often hilarious account of one woman whose obsession carried ... Is it just me or is this book.............?
Review of Is It Just Me or Is Everything Shit?: The Encyclopedia of Modern Life - Alan McArthur by dtait07

Advantages: a few amusing entries that make you think, "hell yeah"
Disadvantages: once read, never again (though I think that about most books)

...year or two ago. It is a classic shelf filler in places like Borders for the Christmas push, given a hefty price for such a book that once the time of January comes around has a sudden price cut to a more a realistic offering. i chose to review this for the benefit of those who think that at first glance; "what a bizarre title, this book MUST be funny", or "my mate jimbob would really like this!. The fact that I have seen it disappear from grace ...
...is another decent obligation. Well, as you can imagine the book is sarcastic to say the least. This isn't a bad thing when looking at the advantages of its existence. When you hear some of the arguements for things like 'Henmania', a reference to the decade of disappointment created by a man who only ever came close at one tournament every year but got a hill named after him. The inclusions of people like George W Bush (I think we all know what the ... Read review
