Advantages Advantages fun, games are quick, no skill involved so all of us are equal.

Disadvantages Disadvantages small balls which my son swallowed, levers can get a bit jammed if too vigorous with them.

When I was a kid, this was a game that I always wanted but for some reason my parents would never get for us. I was never sure why really until I became an adult myself and we were bought it as a family gift for us all to play. At the time my youngest was 19 months old, which was too young really, but we got it out to play with the people who bought it for us, and it seemed to be a hit, so we decided that it would be a game we could play under close supervision only. The game is a simple concept. Balls are released into the central part of the board by pressing a small lever. Each player has 5 ... more

Advantages Advantages Fun game for all ages

Disadvantages Disadvantages Noisy, small parts, doesn't fit in box when set up

Hungry Hippos is yet another classic game that I have fond childhood memories of and is still on the shelves today. I recently brought the game for my daughter and was suprised at how little it has actually changed. The game is set out on a plastic, red, square shaped base and has 4 different coloured hippos attached to each side (orange, yellow, pink and green). Each hippo has a black lever attached to its backside, when the lever is pressed the hippo lunges its head fowards and opens its mouth. 20 small, white, plastic balls (like marbles) are also provided and act as 'food' for the hippos ... more

Advantages Advantages Fun for a long time

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be noisy but I like that

I am going to be honest here – my hubby begged me to buy this game for my little boy (who is 3½) last Christmas but I knew it was for him. He may have tried to give me all the flannel about what a fun toy it was and how Charlie would love it – all of which is true – but I knew – he wanted it and he wanted it bad. Having said that he was right – it was one of the best Christmas presents we bought Charlie and he gets a lot of presents that that time of year because his birthday is on Boxing day. Now some ten months on he still plays with it all the time. So what am I talking about? Hungry Hippos ... more

Hungry Hippos is another one of those games that I remember from my child hood and one that I consider to be a classic. We used to always play this game when we had to have our break times inside due to the rain and I really enjoyed playing it. So when me and my brother received it to share one Christmas to say I was excited would be an understatement. Since then the game still remains in the cupboard under the stairs and has provided hours of entertainment. What is hungry hippos? Hungry hippos is a game based all around, you guessed it, Hippos. The game is designed to be played by up to 4 ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages lose balls, games don't last long

One of my first memories of having a friend when I was little involves playing this game. I can have only been around 4 or 5 at the time and I remember being at his house and he had this game. I had fond memories of this game so when the opportunity came for me to add it to my son’s ever increasing games collection a couple of years ago I jumped at the chance. In many ways I wish I hadn’t bothered! Hungry Hippo’s is a Hasbro game and is produced by MB games. The age recommendation on the box is age 3+ and I think this is a good age really as the game involves playing with pretty small white ... more
