Hypertec's Firestorm USB powered external hard drives are high performing units with stylish aluminum outer casings that are lightweight yet strong. Simply plug a unit in and enjoy the luxury of high speed data storage for music, video, documents, spreadsheets and any other data! Firestorm external hard drives are supplied with EMC's award winning Retrospect Express backup and disaster recovery software, providing proven data protection capabilities in an easy-to-use software package. Designed for safety and security, Retrospect Express protects your desktop or notebook against loss due to viruses, user error, damaged hardware, hackers, or even lost or stolen computers. Retrospect's patented Progressive Backup saves time by backing up only new or edited files after the first full backup, whilst automated grooming of older backup data ensures that backups fit within the allotted disk space. Retrospect Express performs accurate restores without bringing back unwanted files and folders that were previously deleted, renamed, or moved, avoiding confusion and potential costly mistakes. Not only does Retrospect Express provide fast backups, but it is also easy for all to use and offers protection in the form of data encryption. In addition to EMC's Retrospect Express, Firestorm units are supplied with HDDErase disk sanitization software, and Truecrypt 256bit AES encryption software to ensure your data is not only safe, but 100% secure.
Advantages: Fast and quiet Disadvantages: Lack of instructions
...Can you possibly fill in 80GB worth of data on your computer?
I can - all those MP3s, applications and games meant that upgrading from an exisiting 10 GB drive was essential.
Costing around £80, the Deskstar 120GXP did not come with any fixtures or fitting, leads or indeed, instructions.
If you are au fait with PC upgrades, all very well, if not you may want someone who is to install it for you.
After 'cloning' the data from my 10 GB drive to the 80GB Deskstar 120GXP the first thing I noticed is how very quiet the drive is - only the flashing red LED on the front of the PC gives it away.
The drive runs at 7,200 RPM so is considerably faster than old 5,400 RPM drives. You certainly notice the difference - Windows loads faster and games and applications too.
Reviews in magazines have questioned the lifespan...

Advantages: Quick transfer speed, Disadvantages: Fairly Bulky
...What can i say this is an internal had-drive which obviously integrates within a computer system. Nowadays 80GB is not enough for anyone as programs are now increasing in size due to their complexity and what they have to offer.
A hard drive is a non-volatile storage device which stores digitally encoded data on rapidly rotating platters with magnetic surfaces. Non-volatile storage is simply the name given to a storage device which can retain stored data even when not powered. With a volatile storage device being one that can not retain saved data e.g. RAM (Random Access Memory).
I used to have an 80GB hard drive in the past on my "OLD" PC, which was about 5 years ago. Now i have a 300 GB hard drive which i have to admit is filling up really quickly. Due to the number of files stored e.g music, photo, video etc.
This particular...

...I've been very pleased with my Ximeta 80GB external drive (120GB and 160GB versions alre also available).
Ximeta's NetDisk is the world's first consumer-friendly, external Ethernet/USB 2.0 combination Hard Disk Drive (HDD) using Ximeta's "revolutionary" NDAS (Network Direct Attached Storage) technology, which allows direct connection to any network without the need for IP configurations or expensive servers !
I have it connected to my home network (by cable to my router - a wireless version is also available) so 2 different computers can access shared data/music/video files:
- Central MP3 library that can be played from any computer on the network
- Central video library of camcorder footage
- Central backup of essential files
The setup was very simple (although not quite plug & play), I just connected the Net...
