Computers of mine never seem to last very long but the one thing I've never had to change has been the monitor. I had therefore been stuck with the same, huge and extremely heavy white monitor which took up the majority of my computer desk. To be honest I wasn't too bothered with leaving it at that, I'm not really a big computer whiz, and to be fair, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it!'.

The monitor has (roughly guessing) about a one inch border around the screen itself, which is black.
Then, I slowly realised that everyone around me had these sexy little flat monitors, and I must admit that the screen made my nice computer room look hopelessly outdated. So I decided it was about time I upgraded.
After much searching around computer stores, I gained the help of my good old dad and we decided to go for this one - A Hyundai B71A 'ImageQuest' monitor - mainly because, OK, I'll be honest, he decided he'd purchase it for me - even better!
The monitor has (roughly guessing) about a one inch border around the screen itself, which is black. In the top right hand corner is the model make, 'B71A', to be honest I'd never really noticed that there before until I decided to review it - don't know if you'll think that's a good or bad point so I'll let you decide yourself! In the bottom right hand corner is a small light, green for when the monitor is on, red for when it's off.
The Hyundai sign is at the bottom in the centre. The screen itself has a very professional and sleek appearance. The stand is a slanted grey block, which sits on a circular stand, different from most monitors which simply have the rectangular stand itself.
* The Technical Part * ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Weight: 3.2kg - a lovely weight. I am easily able to pick up and move around the monitor using two hands (also with one hand but this is not recommended, I nearly dropped it whilst trying to see if it was possible to hold with just the one...)
Height: 40cm, although it states 40.1cm on the website I measured it to be forty exactly.
Width: 37.4cm…no complaints there…
Maximum Vertical viewing angle: 135° (Horizontal 150°)
Dot Pitch: 0.26mm - For those of you who don't know, the dot pitch is the distance between each pixel on the screen - the smaller the better. 0.31mm or less provides a good, sharp image, so with 0.05mm less than this, we're laughing!
Colour support: 16.2 million colours - I've googled this and this seems to be pretty good, the highest I could find was a brand new model supporting 16.7 million colours. That's a lot of colours…I can only name about twenty…red, yellow, blue, green….
Maximum refresh rate: 75Hz - the maximum refresh rate is the number of frames per second that can be displayed on the screen. Anything of 75Hz and above will produce a flicker-free display (so you won't notice the screen refreshing, really), and this is what this monitor possesses, so another thumbs up.
The screen is LCD, which stands for liquid-crystal display. LCD's are flat-panel monitors and are now used more often than their previous successors, the CRT's - older, larger monitors which were developed using cathode ray tube technology.
Basically, the liquid crystal is between layers of plastic or glass
Resolution: 1280 x 1024 - resolution is the number of dots (pixels) on the monitor screen. So this monitor has the capability of there being 1280 dots per line (out of 1024). The more dots per inch, the higher the quality of the viewing.
It also comes with a three year manufacturer's warranty.
* Price and availability * ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The availability of this monitor is not actually very good. I purchased my monitor from a local computer warehouse, for the discounted price of just over £120, which was about a year ago now. Perhaps since then the monitor has been updated but I haven't seen it stocked anywhere since then.
The cheapest I could find this monitor online was at MicroDirect, where it is currently selling for £132.13.
* To conclude…. * ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is a lovely little monitor. I have owned this monitor for just over a year now and have never had any problems with it! It has put up with me forgetting to turn it off at night, spilling drinks on it (an unfortunate clumsiness of mine - will have to stop drinking tea whilst computing…) and using it much too much, due to me having far too much spare time on my hands!
It is small enough to leave me a lot of extra space on my computer desk for speakers, disks and warm drinkable liquids, but large enough to give a good quality picture. It is sleek and has a good professional appearance, and wouldn't look out of place in an office. I think owning this monitor has given my whole computer room an update, although it's still in need of a good lick of paint…
The instruction manual is good and detailed and, I should expect, be able to answer any questions you may have about the monitor. Installion of the monitor was however pretty self explantory, so there wasn't really much need to read through it - maybe I was too eager hey. I have not needed manufacturer support as yet from Hyundai, but they have a website for the Image Quest series, www.hyundaiq.com, with a customer support section. There are a couple of phone numbers there with international-looking dialling codes so check before you dial, may be better to contact them via email.
The quality of the picture and colour of this monitor is very good, colours appear vibrant and varied, unlike some of the older models which can make colours seem bland and repetitive.
If you are looking for a reasonably priced LCD flat screened monitor, this could be the one for you. It's a good size, is stylish and with very good quality features.
I hope my first attempt at a more technical review wasn't too dreadful, I've tried to give some basic explanations of things and have even learnt a few things my self on doing so!
Advantages: Superb picture quality, stylish, compact Disadvantages: Slightly high price, availability (i wanted another one but can only find second hand ones)
-----| My experience - (if you want my opinion and how ive got on) |-----
This monitor has a 17" viewable screen (17" diagonally, this monitor is not widescreen it is square) at the resolution 1280x1024, with a response time of 8ms, and a contrast ratio of 700:1. This makes it more than adequate as a gaming monitor. When playing games with this monitor it is a much more immersive experience than most lower spec monitors, there is also no ghosting ... ...by the guy who hasnt appeared yet. The screen is surrounded by a 1.5cm border which makes the screen appear bigger also.
The contrast ratio of 700:1 makes this monitor also viable for office use, making black text on a white background very clear. The brilliant colours displayed with this monitor make it also great for any graphic artist or photographer.
Any 3D designer (3D Studio Max, Maya, Cinema4D etc) or 2D designer (Photoshop, Illustrator ...
