Hyundai N91W 19inch Widescreen TFT Monitor
**Background Research**
I bought this monitor one month ago, I had decided that I wanted a widescreen monitor (mainly because its a bit different and much better for watching video on) with a black surround that was wall mountable. However as I play games I had to have a quick response time, so after researching decided that anything 8ms or below would be good enough. When I started to research different monitors and the different online retailers it became clear that most online companies sold the same monitors but the prices varied. After a few weeks I had boiled my choice down to 3 monitors, the one above, a 19" Hanns G (roughly £140 + delivery) and a special offer on Dabs for a 19" Widescreen (£130 inc VAT and delivery).
In the end I decided on the Hyundai as it was the only one that had a good black surround on it as opposed to various silver surrounds widely available. The spec of the monitor is 8ms, wall mountable, a 3-year on-site warranty and 800:1 contrast ratio. I bought it from the Aria website as they were slightly cheaper than other sites, the total cost including VAT and delivery came to £168, just slightly more than I had originally wanted to pay but I'm happy with the product. The speed of Aria was also really good, I ordered the monitor around lunchtime, and by 3pm received an email saying that the product had been dispatched, I received it the next day by courier.
**The Monitor Itself**
I'm really pleased with this monitor and especially pleased that I decided to go for a black surround. After viewing a few different screens in Comet/Currys I think the picture looks slightly sharper against the black frame, this is probably just my subjective view so you should make of that what you will. The monitor comes with built-in speakers which won't please everyone ie they are great if you want a very basic output but won't please game players. The best thing I've found is that there are no dead pixels, this was my main complaint against TFT screens for years, manufacturers are reluctant to exchange or return monitors with dead pixels and I think there is a rough rule of thumb that anything less than three dead pixels is acceptable and they won't exchange it.
The default brightness/contrast is far too much so it needs altering, the menu system (accessible through buttons on the monitor) is easy to work and there's the standard brightness/colour/contrast settings. Also available are some pre-programed settings such as warm/cool. I've found that there's no ghost trails whilst watching DVD's or watching games, and that the refresh rate is more than enough to give great picture quality. At the moment I've connected the monitor through the standard VGA adaptor, however it comes with a DVi slot and (I'm led to believe) this gives an even better picture quality. For those not familiar with DVi its just starting to become popular and may later become the standard way to connect your monitor to your PC. A word of warning though, the monitor itself does not include a DVi cable so this will need to be purchased separately, also make sure your graphics card has a DVi slot. The monitor comes with standard power lead, VGA cable and speaker cable.
Overall then a great quality widescreen monitor which I would definately recommend, despite the slightly high price.
Advantages: Price, looks and also performance above its price! Disadvantages: No horizontal adjustment on the stand, built-in speakers aren't the best.
...reviews I decided on the Hyundai ImageQuest N91W as my first flat-screen monitor. The specification is quite high for the price bracket and the design is beautiful too. I expected it to be average when I got it but it took me by surprise in a good way! The picture is very clear, crisp and bright (too bright on the default setting for me) with colours reproduced evenly and well. This monitor in particular has a black surround which I find better than ... ...monitor, the warranty offered by Hyundai is NOT 3 years on-site, it's 3 years collect and return so if you do have problems with it you will have to send it to them. Basically this means they pay for and arrange collection but it also means you will be without the monitor for however long it takes to repair. I've had to deal with the support side once due to a fault with the monitor I have and they are polite and very quick to respond, usually within ...
