Now you wonder why would I go for a 4x4 well try spending a winter in Livingston then you will see. Last January we had some major snow fall and because I work in Edinburgh I tend to drive in. Well I had a Hyundai Coupe and let me tell you that car did not like the snow . Looked out my window in the morning and the snow was about 6/7 inch deep.
Tried to get it out of the street with no luck so had to take the day off work. That's when I decided I would get the 4x4.
I went to my local Hyundai dealer as they have provided me with excellent service in the past and explained to them my dilemma. They suggested the 4x4 Santa Fe. So took it out for a spin and loved it straight away it got off it's mark quick enough this is important for me as I stay in a place with lots of roundabouts so pick off speed is important. Took a bit of getting used to after having a 2ltr coupe as I could not throw it round bends as fast for fear of it toppling over.
The drive itself was very comfortable and there are lots of leavers for the seat adjustment you can angle the seat pad and move up and down (for us short people)forward back and there is lumbar support witch you can adjust also.
Visually it is quite rounded and not as square as the land rover I bought a nice silver color which surprisingly enough hides dirt well have only washed it twice in about 8 months.
Now getting in and out of it can be tricky if your small as it does not come with a wee step. I did twist me knee once getting in to it so may not be a good choice for someone with limited movement. My wee nephew had a bit of bother trying to get in also.
There are lots of nice touches inside two cup holders in the front and space for sat nav witch you can buy as an extra when you purchase this.
This car as new comes 5 year unlimited mileage warranty 6 year anti-perforation warranty 3 years' Hyundai RAC assistance Which I found useful as I did not have to pay extra for RAC. Another wee perk was I can take my car in for a free health check they top up your washer fluid and oil and wash it at anytime during this 5 years.
Now for the technical stuff>>>>>> >Specs (taken From My Manual)
4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve
0-62mph in seconds---11.4
Top speed mph---108< (dunno about this I'm sure I have got 115 in my car but this is what the manual says.)
Alloys---6.5J x 16>> very nice alloys for a big car I thought.
Price New: £15,995.00 This is a good price but I bought mine second hand at £12500.00
>Safety Features:( Taken from my Manual)
3 x 3 point rear seatbelts> there are nifty wee holders for the seatbelts to stop them moving about in the back also.
4WD system - rear limited slip differential unit> the 4 wheel drive unfortunately is on all the time this is one drawback as it does suck up the petrol.
Adjustable head restraints - front & rear
Adjustable steering column - height
Airbag - side Airbags - driver and front passenger
Anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic brake force distribution (EBD)
Childproof rear door locks
Engine immobilizer
Height adjustable seatbelts - front
High mounted brake light
ISOfix child seat anchorage - rear only
Lockable glove box
Locking wheel nuts
Oxidisation catalyst
Power assisted steering
Remote central locking with alarm
Retractable load cover..>This is handy when you are putting lots of stuff in your boot I moved my sister from one flat to another and did it all in one trip with my Santa Fe it holds lots of stuff and you can take the load cover off altogether to gain even more room.
Seatbelt pre-tensioners with load limiters.
>>Final Thoughts:
I do like this car it's very comfortable to drive and you can see over other cars in front so great for seeing to overtake the slowbies. But you do have to keep it in higher gears to overtake. I used to get upset in my wee coupe when people tailgated me but with the Santa Fe it does not bother me as I don't see them and if they do bash into me their car will come out a lot worse than mine he he. It's nice being up high and you get used to it very quickly the size of the car just folds round about you. The air conditioning is nice when it's a warm day as the car does heat up allot with all the windows and sunroof. Another good thing is people tend to stay out of your way as you're a bit bigger than them.
It also has a window that opens at the back as well as the boot.
Only major down side I see to the Santa Fe is it's petrol consumption I drive roughly 368 miles a week and it takes about £53 at the moment to fill her up and I get about 390 to a tank so it's not the most economical car around. So have started to get the train into work.
So would definitely recommend this car but only if you have the cash to keep her filled with petrol as she is a greedy one.
Another point to note if you want to keep your warranty up to date you have to get it serviced at a Hyundai garage.
Additions:
Forgot to mention the back seats fold down to allow extra space, we actualy managed to get a huge fridge freezer in the back once the rear seats were down. The other good thing is there is a single seat and a double so depending on the size of the item you only need to put one of them down and you will still have another space for a passenger.
Advantages: nice handling, all wheel drive Disadvantages: v6 all wheel drive drinks gas
...been temporarily assigned a black Hyundai Sante Fe for use in a construction company, I found that this vehicle can take a lot of blows.
One thing which worked for and against this vehicle was its all-wheel drive. It was simultaneously the strength and weekness of this vehicle because it affected its fuel economy but made for far better handling.
Because it was built - as far as I am concerned - on the basis of a car, its ride height was set rather ... ...my only problem with the Hyundai Santa Fe. Several of the Santa Fe's had to be sent back to the firm for servicing of their transmissions, since they were used in some rather unfriendly terrain.
Remember something, though: this is an SUV, and the towing hook at the back of the vehicle was not exactly encouraging when it came to towing a friend out of danger. But, it was very roomy and spacious, especially in the backseat, if you have a young football ...

Advantages: Good View, and seating position, 5 Year warranty Disadvantages: Fuel Consumption, slightly underpowered, clutch
I bought my car second hand 18 months ago. I still have 6 months warranty left due to the 5 year manufacturers warranty. I have had it serviced twice at the dealership from where I bought it. The first time I was pleasantly surprised - it was a lot cheaper than I expected it to be. The second time however, the price was nearly treble for about the same amount of work and I was not happy!!
I had complained about a lack of power especially when going ... ...wrong, apart from a small oil leak in the transmition that would be fixed under warranty - so I had to book another date. On leaving the garage the drive was worse than ever before, but I thought that they must have test driven it so things must be OK. Over the next two weeks things got worse until I had to call the AA. They informed the clutch had gone.
The garage investigated and discovered the gear selector fork had stuck, causing wear on the ...

Bought as new one during the last year of production. External design needs some time to adopt to it by some people.
Very good equipment, nice driving comfort and acceptable noise level for reasonable price, decent road handling, unexpectedly efficient 4x4 powertrain in heavy snow conditions but with good winter tyres. Quick and excellent heating abbilities, good manual A/C. Good lights, especially fog lights and blinking lights. Excellent internal ... ...to big seats and roomy interior. 4 members families can really enjoy on longer trips.
With carefull driving the consumption could be between 9-10 l/100km in light to medium traffic in city conditions (keep revs between 15 -25 what needs some self-discipline). Otherwise it can be slightly over 11l, what is the main objection. Open road consumption is bellow 10l, what is acceptable for full-time 4x4 drive. Lot of power over 4000 revs (for overtaking) ...

Advantages: All on road aspects of driving top class from morning start to end of journey. All round visibility for reversing, motorway driving, changing lanes in town also excellent. Looks inside and out like the top of the range. Holds it own with Jeep, Disadvantages: Harder on fuel than the average car but then that is to be expected.
Having spent 6 mths driving other SUV drove the Santa Fe. Just Love the drive and the look. Has ABS. Both Driver and Passenger Airbag as standard.
Really top class driving experience. The Santa Fe Corners extremely well. It also has a good turning circle. Drives great on the Motorway and in Town alike. Along Country Lanes proves not problems either. I find it very easy to parked whether in a space at the local supermarket or on street reverse parking) ... ...and ice conditions excellent.
Looks great both inside and out interior matches if not beats the other SUV's with a higher price tag.
Spacious boot space can accommodate whatever sports equipment you require. Along with those visits to the DIY. Whether in the driving seat or back seat you would never feel cramped. Spacious and comfortable you could not ask for more.
So far no repair bills. ...

Advantages: Value for Money,Reliability,Build Quality Disadvantages: Mid range torque is disappointing
18 Months ago I bought the Santa Fe as a replacement for a mondeo Estate, which gave me back ache. No more backache even on the longest Journeys. I am done 43000 miles with no problems, Even the tyres still have 4mm tread on them. The santa Fe has been used daily, on all road types, for a high sided car it is very stable. My wife loves the feeling of saftey the car gives. The warranty on the Santa Fe is excellent. If you are looking for an SUV and ...

Advantages: relativley cheap. very reliable. Disadvantages: re-sale value
I currently own a HyundaiSantaFe2.4 petrol s.u.v.
I have had this car for almost 2years. The price i paid was £16,000 and compared to other vehicles in this class, like the RAV 4, BMWX5,JEEP, and the Honda CRV. The SantaFe more than matched the spec of these cars at a cheaper price. It also drives more like a car than a typical 4x4. The road handling is superb and the accelleration is smooth and surprisingly fast for a car of that size.
The reliability of Hyundai cars are supurb. Before purchasing the SantaFe i owned a Lantra e1.6 GLSI estate. In 3 years i had done 95,000 miles and the only things that needed replacing was the brake pads at 70,000 miles and the clutch at 85,000 miles.
So far i've done 37,000 miles in the SantaFe without a hitch.
On long journeys the car is a very comfortable drive with air con. as standard ...
