...I think it’s time for a short, sweet review on my new computer monitor. My expertise are somewhat lacking in this fielded area but nevertheless I shall give it a go.
It always amazes me how fast the computer industry moves, I remember first seeing FlatPanelMonitors for the first time and wanting one but their price tags were so high that many people were simply out of reach from getting one. Yet 18 months pass and now these FlatPanelMonitors are bundled with computers as if they had always been around. I didn’t decide to get a new computer; instead I bought this Philips 170S4FB Monitor separately from my local John Lewis.
The screen is exactly 17inches diagonally which is a very impressive size since before FlatPanels; 17inchmonitors would have a screen size of around 15 inches. Basically with a Flatpanel, what you see...

Advantages: Very versatile mid range server Disadvantages: support web site can be awkward to navigate
.... This is because the rails are a little longer than the server to accomodate the cable management bars. The 5 1/4" bay that houses the CD ROM etc slides out and rotates through 90 degrees so you don't have to put CDs in on their side. The power leds transpose to a different location as does the power switch. Once this is complete you can click on the new facia, screw on the base and lid, put your rails into your cabinet and then drop the server onto the rails. Although it has two stabalizing wheels for the back and the front of the rail hooks into the rack clips on the server, I would definately reccomend two people to do the job as you need to screw four screws into each side of the server and need to support the weight whilst you do it.
With regard to hard drives I would normally build this server with a mirrored pair of 73GB U320 15Ks for the OS...

Advantages: Great picture, very stylish, very small footprint, good value. Disadvantages: Tricky to clean, unknown brand.
...I'm writing this review in front of my Xiod IM17SM flatpanelmonitor which I am absolutely over the moon with. I don't know how I ever coped with CRT!
I had been looking into LCD monitors for a while due to a lack of space on my desk and the general ugliness of my existing CRT but was obviously put off by the price and wasn't really sure about picture quality of LCD screens.
I was pretty sure my £230 budget wouldn't accomodate anything larger than a 15" screen (which would have been a little smaller than my CRT) but I was prepared to make the sacrifice.
When I saw this monitor up for sale on eBay, I thought well why not, it has to be worth a go. I did a little research into the Xiod brand and found that it is a budget subsidiary of Samsung, who I knew made decent LCD panels. Whacked in a bid and won the monitor for £215...
