Manufacturer's product description
This tape autoloader option offers high capacity, performance and technology designed for the midrange open systems environment. It is an external 2U stand-alone or rack-mountable unit that incorporates a single IBM LTO Generation 2 tape drive. The capacity of this autoloader is eight tape cartridges, providing a data capacity of up to 1.6TB of data storage per unit (up to 3.2TB with data compression, depending on the data being compressed). This option supports xSeries Servers with unattended backup, open systems attachment flexibility, enhanced capacity and performance. It incorporates a single Linear Tape-Open (LTO) IBM Generation 2 Tape Drive, which more than doubles tape drive performance over the previous generation LTO Generation 1 tape drives, up to 35MB/sec native data transfer rate (up to 70 MB/sec with data compression, depending on the data being compressed). In addition, with the use of the new IBM LTO Generation 2200GB Data Cartridge, the Generation 2 Tape Drive has the capability of writing twice as much data, up to 200 GB native capacity (up to 400GB with data compression, depending on the data being compressed). With support for LTO Generation 2 format tape data cartridges, this LTO tape autoloader provides an excellent migration path from previous LTO Generations, digital linear tape (DLT or SDLT) 1/4-inch, 4mm, or 8mm/AIT tape drives. It is a cost-effective solution for backup, save and restore, and archiving functions.
