Advantages: No-one ever got fired for buying IBM Disadvantages: I can't hear you over the fans....
Just to the right of my right leg is sat one of these boxes. About 3 years ago I was offered it for a very very nice £90, no monitor or keyboard. 'A bargain I thought'. '£90 for a nice middle level server, SCSI and dual processor potential, can't go wrong with that' and guess what, (at least pretend to be surprised !) it's still working. If you have read some of my other reviews on computer hardware, you may figure out I like stuff that's a little old but I figure that if it has either a HP or an IBM badge on the front, it is usually worth buying.
My 6889 came with 128mb and a 9gb drive, since then I've upgraded it to 1GB using standard 256mb DIMMs (a tip, throw away the IBM DIMM, it doesnt like other manufacturers and besides, they cost a fortune !), the 9gb has gone and been replaced by a 17GB SCSI and a 140GB IDE RAID and the gfx ...
Advantages: cheap, reliable, portable, easy to use and intuitive Disadvantages: limited ins and outs, not a lot of leeway for input levels
The M-Audio Fast Track Pro is all round a fairly good piece of kit.
I originally bought mine as my very first audio/usb interface to use with my Macbook and Logic Pro when I first started university, 2 years ago. I am now in my final year, and have progressed up to using Pro Tools (M-powered, as this is the only version supported by the Fast Track Pro.) I have to date used the fast track pro to create semi-professional projects.
The sound quality is, I have to say, very good for a £120 interface, although I have had problems attempting to get a decent input signal strength, especially when using the built in phantom power.
However, the integrated phantom power is effective, even when the unit is powered solely by USB, although the option for mains power is available, though the adapter is not included in the box. I got a universal ...
Advantages: great sounds and all round amazing. Disadvantages: very pricey and takes up alot of room
The mapex pro-m drums are one of the best kits out on the market. Its a really proffesional kit and worth all the money. They tend to start from £850 but it is deffinatly worth. Each drum is made of maple shells and has remo heads already fixed on. Id suggest buying from a mapex dealer because you can get a great warranty deal and all the colours range for a great price. I myself went to a drum dealer and got mine with a set of zildjian cymbals all for £1250. If you feel you need a step above beginner or intermediate kits then the mapex pro-m is for you. In my oppinion the mapex pro-m is a really impressive peice of kit for what you get and i'd say one of the best kits on the market. ...
