It's Big, It's Black and it's Sexy !

Advantages: No-one ever got fired for buying IBM
Disadvantages: I can't hear you over the fans....

Just to the right of my right leg is sat one of these boxes. About 3 years ago I was offered it for a very very nice £90, no monitor or keyboard. 'A bargain I thought'. '£90 for a nice middle level server, SCSI and dual processor potential, can't go wrong with that' and guess what, (at least pretend to be surprised !) it's still working. If you have read some of my other reviews on computer hardware, you may figure out I like stuff that's a little old but I figure that if it has either a HP or an IBM badge on the front, it is usually worth buying. My 6889 came with 128mb and a 9gb drive, since then I've upgraded it to 1GB using standard 256mb DIMMs (a tip, throw away the IBM DIMM, it doesnt like other manufacturers and besides, they cost a fortune !), the 9gb has gone and been replaced by a 17GB SCSI and a 140GB IDE RAID and the gfx ...

M-Audio Fast Track Pro - Great for working with audio on a budget

Advantages: cheap, reliable, portable, easy to use and intuitive
Disadvantages: limited ins and outs, not a lot of leeway for input levels

The M-Audio Fast Track Pro is all round a fairly good piece of kit. I originally bought mine as my very first audio/usb interface to use with my Macbook and Logic Pro when I first started university, 2 years ago. I am now in my final year, and have progressed up to using Pro Tools (M-powered, as this is the only version supported by the Fast Track Pro.) I have to date used the fast track pro to create semi-professional projects. The sound quality is, I have to say, very good for a £120 interface, although I have had problems attempting to get a decent input signal strength, especially when using the built in phantom power. However, the integrated phantom power is effective, even when the unit is powered solely by USB, although the option for mains power is available, though the adapter is not included in the box. I got a universal ...

ASUS M4A78 PRO motherboard

Advantages: cheapest i could find with UK online retailer
Disadvantages: open box item

REVIEW FOR ASUS M4A78 PRO purchased from LUCMOS.CO.UK PROS: Built in video (VGA, HDMI, DVI), fiber optic out, RAID 0,1,5,10, JBOD; capable of locating and flashing bios under windows; 6 SATA slots, potential of 12 USB; 3 PCI slots handy to recycle various cards from old computer (ie old TV card) CONS: Bios only partially recognizes my Microsoft wireless photo keyboard set (mouse, not keyboard); Utilizing the optical out blocks one USB out (TOO CLOSE TOGETHER), No Firewire inputs on board (yet STILL with COM1 and floppy inputs?!) Other Thoughts: This was an open box item for 65 quid all in which Lucmpos indicates will not ship with the full complement of stuff, but I was expecting the I/O backing to at least cover up the back of my tower for this system of outputs...Alas, no. This baby shipped with just the board and non else ...
