Advantages: IBM reputation, support, quality, Duron CPU, 200Mhz motherboard, 4X AGP slot, software package Disadvantages: No matter how much you dislike to be seen in Comet, I think they are the only ones selling it. No paper manuals
...'IBM' and 'low price' have not really sat very happily in the same sentence and certainly not the three words 'IBM' 'low price' AND Comet - which is not known for low prices, and where I acquired mine. But Comet are (unusually) selling, as of writing, an IBMNetVista system for less than £500 with 15" monitor, and £375 without the monitor.
I initially thought they had priced it wrong! Anyhow, I took the package without the monitor for a penny under £375, that's cheaper than many 'kit' computers and lesser brands. Exact IBM model number is a 2284-12g (the 12g signifies its the model without the 15" screen)

The smart, (sexy) dark graphite corporate looking TOWER case houses a 600Mhz AMD Duron processor which is highly rated in Ciao and in the PC press in general. Cutting the story short, it slaughters the Celeron which...

ram - variable , 128-320mb
hdd- 20gb
graphics - 4mb ati chip
2x usb 1
1x pcmcia port
1x compact flash port

Review: i bought the laptop primarily because i wanted a vaery light laptop and this one provided the best spec for the money.
Mine had 320mb ram, and i have installed windows XP pro on it which runs perfectly well on it, despite the relatively low power of the cpu.
The battery life is surprsingly good, (given the battery was not new) and i get between 2 and 3 hrs on it depending on settings and what programs i am running.
the machine is so light you hardly notice it in your bag, the screen is great and offers a nice 1024x768 which is perfect for the sie of the screen...

The Dell D series of laptops came out in 2003 to replace the C series laptops (how did they come up with such a catchy name?). The main ranges are the D400, D600 and D800 spot the pattern yet. The D600 is the middle of the range in terms of size, weight more
A great buy!
Having used computers for years but never having bought one of my own or being very 'technically' minded I had no clue what kind of a laptop I needed or wanted. Basically I just wanted something stylish to use the internet on at home! I more
Good Points: - before I rated the old Powerbook from Apple but not yet this little black Macbook. It is "faster", has audio in, wireless internet, a brighter screen, a better power connector and a whole range of excellent software delivered with it. The... more
