Manufacturer's product description
POWER5+ is a "server on a chip" containing a high-bandwidth system switch, a large memory cache and I/O interface. It is based on technologies that enable IBM systems to provide customers improved performance and decreased IT footprint size through logical partitioning. With the POWER5+ processor, IBM is enhancing the features and speed that have made the POWER5 processor the measuring stick of UNIX servers, while offering customers the price performance value they need to justify a long-term investment in their data centers.
Advantages: Good Value for money, attractive design Disadvantages: No DVD drive
...This computer look aesthetically very good in a sleek black colour with unique IBM black casing, and for most desktop applications will work very well while remaining stable. The Celeron D processor is a resonable speed giving fast loading speeds and supporting the more processor intensive applications.
The main disadvantage with this machine is that it doesn't have a DVD drive as standard, although these can now be purchased for as cheap as £10.00 if you look around on the internet (www.ebuyer.com is a good one!). As far as the high power demanding games go, the Celeron processors and intel boards are quite sufficient for most of your needs when combined with a reasonable graphics card.
Overall recomendation: Great computer if you are on a low budget, or looking for something to build up on and improve over time!...

Advantages: Very Very fast Disadvantages: Not ultra Cheap
...I have recently purchased an IBM NetVista which runs with an Athlon 1GHz..
This is one fast beast! Really really fast. I use a lot of processor intensive software and it really shows it's pace. Even in mundane tasks, such as comressing music or defreagging the Hard Drive, I am still amazed at the speed. It is a socket A, I am not sure if it is one of the new breed with performance enhancing cache memory closer to the processor or whether it is an older variant of the usual slot Athlon, as it is not described as a T-Bird.
But i REALLY DON'T CARE!! I wouldn't need anything faster and I think that it would be hard to tell the difference too.
Mind you, I built a computer a few months back which runs a T-Bird 850 and the speed difference IS noticeable!
The thing is, as the new chips come out, the slightly older one drop in price. In that way...
