The IBM System Storage TS3200 Tape Library Express Model is designed to offer high capacity, enhanced performance, and technology for the midrange open system environments. The TS3200 Tape Library now incorporates the IBM LTO Ultrium 4 Half-High SAS Tape Drive, enhancing tape performance over the previous generation IBM LTO Ultrium 3 Tape Drives, with a native data transfer rate of up to 120 MB/sec. IBM Ultrium 4 SAS tape drives are encryption capable and will support Transparent LTO Encryption, providing advanced Systems Managed and Library Managed Encryption through a Web-based delivery system. ...keyboard. I found the IBM PC110 (imported from T-Zone in Japan), a 486 handheld that was not terribly stable. It was the first machine I ever had with a CF slot! I returned it after crash after crash. I embraced the Psion 5 and 5mx, but there were always connection issues with my desktop computers. I had several models of the Jornada clamshell series, the 660, 680 and 720, but all were larger than I really wanted, had a low screen resolution and the built-in web browser was worse than useless. I realized that only a fully Windows compatible system would serve. Why not the Zaurus? Because I don't know Linux and I want a machine that will work out of the box, not one I have to tinker with to get to work. Then came the Flipstart, but after years as vaporware, I gave up on it. The Nokia 770 was nice, but it was slow and quite limited.
Then came...

Advantages: Good price, excellent expandability Disadvantages: Some HDD compatability issues to watch out for
...I purchased a 5200 RouStor from Scan in September 2007, to fulfil the need for a RAID capable network storage device for my home network. I chose this product over others due to the feature set you get for the price. I'd recommend this product to anyone looking for a device to hold data for their small office, or home - particularly home entertainment systems. You can fit a lot of music and videos on to one of these devices, and share data easily round your other Ethernet attached devices.
The unit takes 5 SATA hard drives (they just screw into the caddies, which slot in the front - as per the picture). There is varying support of hard drive models, so for the unwary, you need to check the thecus.com website for compatibility. I chose 500GB Seagate Barracuda disks, to give me a raw storage total of 2.5TB.
The unit is smaller than...

Advantages: Super simple data/File sharing across a home network Disadvantages: Can't really think of any, that's why I bought another one !

I now can confirm that it's also possible to add multiple NetDisk's to your network - up to a total disk space of 1.6 terabytes (!) - and I've not noticed any change in the access speed with 2 devices connected to the network. There's also software included for "asynchronous mirroring" (RAID1) for data protection that continuously creates and saves a copy of data in real time onto a second NetDisk whenever data is written to the first NetDisk ! Alternatively "aggregation" allows two NetDisk units to be recognized as one large drive. I have to admit that I've not yet tried this now I have 2 NetDisk's, but will let you know if I do. Watch this space...
Overall, this is another great item and a very valuable component of my home network, especialy with a massive 250GB of storage space...

There is only so much I can say about the hard drive in terms of use. Basically, a hard drive is a hard drive and this functions as well as any other. However, I have had no problems with use of the drive or loudness. The hard drive excels in it's... more
