A good cheap upgrade for older computers
Review of Evergreen Spectra 333 - AMD K6-2 333 MHz processor by  The_Rock

Advantages: Good price, life time warranty, new technology for old pc's
Disadvantages: Might work as a bottle neck, if your pc lacks RAM

...The evergreen Spectra 333 is a direct replacment for you old Pentium CPU, it replaces Pentium 75Mhz and up and offers a big boost in performance. The upgrade uses an AMD K6 II as the CPU and comes on an adapter board that alters the voltage to make it compatable with your system, the heatsink and fan are also provided as are BIOS updates. It also uses 3D Now technology to provide extra support for graphics in games and general applications. If you can not afford another another computer or can not afford to upgrade the motherboard and processor, then the Spectra 333 is an affordable compromise for your system. The price may seem high at first until you take into account that a new motherboard and memory are not required. The price is around the £120 mark, but cheaper ones are available. Easily a good choice if your old computer... Read review

Review of Evergreen Spectra 333 - AMD K6-2 333 MHz processor by  bluetack

Advantages: cheaper than a CPU, memory & motherboard
Disadvantages: A small % of PC are not compatable

...The evergreen Spectra 333 is a direct replacment for you old Pentium CPU, it replaces Pentium 75Mhz and up and offers a big boost in performance, which means you can run newer apps. If you like your old system or you can not afford another, the spectra is an affordable work around. the price may seem high at first until you take into account that a new motherboard and memory are not required. for just under £100 the spectra is an excellent way to squeeze another year or so out of your old machine. Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 / 2.33 GHz processor
Review of Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 / 2.33 GHz processor by  mop591

Advantages: Very fast, cheap
Disadvantages: need to have IT expereince

...This intel dual core processor with 2.33Ghz speed (total speed of 4.6Ghz) with a 4MB Cache can handle an awful lot of demanding programs runnning at once, obviously it has its limits, but for the price its a very good processor. This processor is also compatable with 64 bit computing. It has an LGA775 Socket which is compatable with most of the new motherboards if you are looking to upgrade or build your own pc. If you are looking to buy a processor i would highly recommend this one or several similar ones, but you need to have IT experience and know what you are doing before paying out for one of these. It comes with a 3 year limited warrenty so it is really set to last.... Read review
