The 64K of internal write-back cache is twice that found in Intel MMX OverDrive processors, and Evergreen's unique high-performance BIOS upgrades for selected systems insures higher compatiblity. The Evergreen Year 2000 Upgrade is the ideal hardware solution for desktop PCs. This easy-to-install ISA card automatically solves year 2000 date change rollover in BIOS, and supports leap year and beyond for x86-based PCs such as 286, 386, 486, Pentium and later model PCs. Advantages: Cheap Disadvantages: Not cutting edge -
...As the name would suggest, IDT's market for the first incarnation of its processor was the low-cost Windows desktop PC, used primarily for word-processing, browsing and e-mail. This next generation chip has a little more power under its belt, however, with support for the MMX and 3DNow! additional instruction sets, from Intel and AMD respectively.
Performance isn't really what IDT's all about, though. The point of the WinChip 2A is that it's cheap, allowing vendors of low-cost systems or set-top boxes to put together PCs that perform pretty well but don't cost the Earth. And if you're worried about compatibility, your fears would seem to be unjustified. IDT has arranged for the WinChip 2A to be tested by various bodies, including Microsoft, and it has plenty of seals of approval. Certainly we had no problems with it in our test PC...

Advantages: Good price, life time warranty, new technology for old pc's Disadvantages: Might work as a bottle neck, if your pc lacks RAM
...The evergreen Spectra 333 is a direct replacment for you old Pentium CPU, it replaces Pentium 75Mhz and up and offers a big boost in performance.
The upgrade uses an AMD K6 II as the CPU and comes on an adapter board that alters the voltage to make it compatable with your system, the heatsink and fan are also provided as are BIOS updates. It also uses 3D Now technology to provide extra support for graphics in games and general applications.
If you can not afford another another computer or can not afford to upgrade the motherboard and processor, then the Spectra 333 is an affordable compromise for your system. The price may seem high at first until you take into account that a new motherboard and memory are not required. The price is around the £120 mark, but cheaper ones are available. Easily a good choice if your old computer...

Advantages: A worthy cheaper rival to Pentium 4 Disadvantages: The AMD heatsink and fan is not good enough, and hard to attach to the motherboard
...The AMD XP3200+ is currently AMDs only processor capable of running on 400Mhz FSB motherboards without the need for overclocking, the processor is a socket A and you will need a compatible motherboard .
Processors running on higher FSB (front side bus) speeds tend to get a better response when processing information, this is a big plus to consider when looking to upgrade to a AMD XP3200+ processor for your computer system.
On most of todays socket A motherboards you will see that the processor frequency can be set at three different levels 133 for running 266mhzprocessors, 166 for running 333mhzprocessors and 200 for 400mhzprocessors, this is a must have piece of information that you will need to know especially when looking to purchase a processor, this is usually contained in your motherboards manual or at their official...
