I have had the worst kitchen fitting experience ever with Ikea. Forget all the issues about missing items, I could deal with that. Yes the kitchens are generally of a good build. No, the problem was that Ikea sub-contract it out to another company- in my case Core and Ore. Who then sub-contract it out to another person (who wanted to sub it out to someone else). Core and Ore do not actually do the fitting- they just push paper about. Then they charge an extorionate amount of money for the most simple of jobs.
In my case the fitter they hired hated Core and Ore so much that he refused to do any work for them. So I was stranded for 4 days, with no kitchen and no fitter (I had already been waiting 6 week for fitting since ordering the kitchen at Ikea). Then the new fitter they found failed to listen to any of my instructions, and he messed up the fitting. Also he also slagged off Core and Ore, saying how extorionate they are for the job. Yes they are quick. Yes they can do a good job. But take my advice, do not go through Ikea and use their fitters at any cost- especially Core and Ore. The guys they use can be found in the phone book and will do just as good a job for half the price that Ikea charge. Yes half the price (their own fitters told me themselves)!
Go through the phone book and find a decent fitter with the necessary accreditation (Master Craftsman Guild, etc)
This a short summary of what happened. Believe me there was a whole lot more. BUt I do like the kitchens them selves- they look good for the price.
If you don't want to be ripped off- DON'T USE THE IKEA FITTERS.

Advantages: good quality, easy to understand how to put it together, easy to install, excellent organization Disadvantages: came in 96 boxes, can be labour intensive
Advantages: Fast ordering, delivery and installation, quality products that look great and cost less Disadvantages: Not everything may be in stock when you go to buy it
