The restaurant is a cafeteria-style job and first impressions were not good. Two lanes for queueing and both fit to burst with hungry shoppers. Oh dear. In my last review, I wasn'y overly kind in my tale of woe concerning breakfast at Wetherspoons. Considering the experience, it was far more than they deserved. Just to show I'm not a just a moaning old, fat git (no, I'm mean, petty and vindictive as well), I thought I'd take this opportunity to heap praise on a somewhat different, breakfasting scenario.

I'm not what you'd call a typical IKEA customer, in fact previous to just a few months ago, I'd only been once and my abiding memory of that ordeal was trying to escape through the maze that they call a shopping floor to the safety of the car park. It's like, once you're in, you ain't leaving till you've bought something. Be that as it may, it just so happens that I've recently been working very close to an IKEA. Not only that, but for a while I was working seven days a week and, as we all know, Sundays wouldn't be Sundays without a decent brekkie...they'd be Tuesdays probably.
So, with that in mind, and having tried all the various other options around (not many), I ventured into said IKEA store to sample the breakfast. (The said IKEA being at Straiton, Edinburgh.)

There's not a huge range of choice on offer but how much choice do you need? As far as I can remember, they did a breakfast ciabatta roll thingy, a kid's breakfast, a small breakfast and a regular breakfast (same as the samll but with two of everything). Guess which one I went for?
I can'r remember the price for the ciabatta, but the kid's brekkie was 85p, small was 99p and regular was £1.95. Certainly nothing wrong with the prices.
The breakfast consists of: hash brown, sausage, bacon, tomato, beans and scrambled egg. The kid's brekkie was a choice of any three items. I think you could also mix and match items for a custom breakfast, but don't "quote" me on that... I said DON'T quote me!
The regular breakfast, as I said, is just the same but doubled. Not only that, you also get a roll and butter!!! Coffee / tea/ hot chocolate comes in at 99p with free refills.
It's a bit of a jostle getting your grub, paying for it and then fixing your tea/coffee, but it WAS pretty busy. However, there were plenty of seats available and if you can manage to get one at the window, you get a fantastic view of Aurthur's Seat thrown in for free.
But how was the breakfast? Thought you'd never ask. It was good. Not great, not as good as home cooking, but it was good. All the items were well cooked and had some flavour to them: juicy bangers, crispy bacon and moist-on-the-inside hash browns. I'm not a great fan of scrambled eggs, but they were not bad at all...in fact I'd say they were better than most fried eggs you get dished up when eating out. Even the tomatoes were grilled properly - not raw, not mushy, somewhere in-between. None of it was greasy. The rolls on offer could be better though. perhaps a Scottish morning roll instead of a Kaiser or a poppy seed. Still, minor (very minor) quibble. To cap it all, the coffee (from a push button dispenser) was excellent and I was sorely tempted to have a refill.
Since first having breakfast at IKEA, I've been back a few times and the standard is pretty consistent. Sometimes the queue takes longer than other times (sometimes it's quite quick), but the food is always the same and always good.
In conclusion, I can heartily recommend breakfast at IKEA. Good, tasty food at a ridiculously low price. Why, you can even get your coffee or tea free if you get yourself an IKEA family card (Mon-Fri only).
I still haven't ventured back into the shopping area though.
Advantages: quick, cheap, reasonable quality, free hot drinks before 10am Disadvantages: can get very crowded, have to clear own table
...back from a visit to IKEA (Purley Way, Croydon) this morning and as it was the school holidays I thought I’d treat myself and my two children to breakfast before we started the shopping. My cunning plan worked! Not a moan or fuss as we shopped leisurely in the marketplace looking for knickknacks that I never knew I even needed.
This system obviously works for a lot of other people as well for, although the restaurant rather helpfully opens up at ... ...before the main store opens at 10am, by 9.45 the restaurant was really starting to fill up. And it is easy to see why. A full English which consists of scrambled egg (a bit watery/rubbery but better than most institutional stuff I’ve had), 1 sausage (succulent), a piece of bacon (fresh and not too fatty - or as my daughter calls it flabby!), grilled tomato (very nice and not overdone) and two hash browns (not too greasy) all for £1 and served up ...

I have been to the Ikea Cafe probably about 8 times so far this year and I am sure there will be another 8 occasions. Due to various home improvements projects this year we have been in and out like yoyo's and on almost every occasion have been to the Cafe. **USING THE IKEA FAMILY CARD AT THE CAFE**

Ikea is probably almost as well known for its Swedish Meatballs as it is for the reasonably price flatpack furniture and 200 tealights for £1 (or whatever they are selling them for nowadays). I always eat the Swedish Meatballs when we eat here. I have them served with chips, gravy and berries and they are so delicious. There is the option of 10 meatballs( (£3.75), 15 meatballs (£4.25) ...

Advantages: Child friendly, cheap and large portions! Disadvantages: Not the greatest quality food
...I tend to go to Ikea about once every couple of months as it is a 40 minute drive from where we live. But we feel it is always worth the trip and though I may sound quite sad for saying this - we treat it as a day out, rather than just visiting the shop!
I like nothing better than stopping halfway through our shopping trip and having a lunch at the Ikea restaurant. The Ikea we go to in Bristol is huge and so is the restaurant. There is a play area in one section where you children can amuse themselves with, and then on the other side of the restaurant there is a circular high walled play area. It is designed like a circular breakfast bar. Stools are placed around the edge of it and there is a wide ledge -so you can watch your children playing in safety whilst enjoying your meal.

...had a great time at IKEA Einrichtungshaus Haid, at the Shopping Center Haid, Austria 2 days ago.

But IKEA realized that people do not just want to shop, they also want to be entertained and to eat. Therefore, they come up with the idea of having a play section for the children and the restaurant section.
With this concept IKEA they increase the availability ...

Advantages: cheap, clean, fab food, relaxing Disadvantages: decore, now no smoking, self clean
...The decore of the Ikea restaurant in my nearest store (thurrock) has changed recently, and become more for kids than adults. They have put grotesque 'kids party' style green plastic table clothes on most of their tables, and the entire restaurant looks like its been laid out for a kids party, and is also now no smoking. The seats are not too comfortable, and they have added alot of tables- so you feel very bunched together- (although its not busy- ... ...don't actually buy anything from Ikea as a rule- we just eat there.
The staff are always, without exception- very polite and friendly.
But remember- you clean up your own mess- put rubbish in bins, trays on a shelf etc- maybe that's why the staff are so nice!
Next time I review a restaurant, I am taking a note pad & making notes, I had an excellent review planned out in my head- but now it's all gone- appologise.
Anyway- I hope this is helpful. ...

Advantages: Tasty. Easily Found. Good company Disadvantages: Pricy
Ever since I was knee-high to a grasshopper I have loved salmon. I thoroughly relish smoked salmon, adore a nicely grilled salmon steak and love tinned Red Salmon. Somehow,I have never enjoyed canned Pink Salmon-I find the richness and flavour to be a bit lacking compared to gorgeous Red salmon.
Red salmon is as I am sure most people are aware, actually very good for you. Fish is a great and healthy source of protein and " The Queen of Fish" happens to be very rich in Omega 3 Fish Oils.
I find Red Salmon is wonderful in salads, makes for a superb sandwich and is excellent in a filled croisant. It gives you an option for an additional tasty topping for a pizza and a salmon bake is very nice.I often have that dish at my local Ikea store.
Salmon fish cakes served with mash and an onion sauce is heavenly too. These days quite a lot ...
