Legal Executives are qualified lawyers specialising in a particular area of law. To become a Legal Executive you need to pass the exams leading to the ILEX Professional Qualification in Law, and gain five years' experience of working under the supervision of a solicitor in legal practice or the legal department of a private company or local/national government. At that stage you can apply to become a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX). ILEX Professional Qualification in Law
The Professional Qualification in Law is divided into Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law (PDL) and Level 4 Professional Higher Diploma in Law (PHDL), previously referred to as Part I ILEX and Part II ILEX respectively.
Level 3 PDL provides a broad introduction to law and legal practice. ITC offers the Level 3 PDL courses Law 1, Practice 1, Law 2, and Practice 2 by distance learning.
Level 4 PHDL allows for specialist study of three substantive law subjects and one legal practice subject. To complete Level 4 PHDL, you must pass exams in a legal practice paper with its linked law paper, and two other substantive law papers of your choice from the Level 4 PHDL law subjects. ITC is the only college to offer the full range of Level 4 PHDL courses.
The six practice subjects and their linked law subjects are:

Entry requirements
Please refer to www.ilex.org.uk for entry requirements, and exemption information. Please note that you must register with ILEX as a Student Member at the same time as you enrol on an ITC course. You will only be able to apply to enter the ILEX exam if you are a Student Member, and strict deadlines are imposed for exam entry.
ILEX - Institute of Legal Executives
The first level - Level 3 Diploma in Law and Practice is made up of 10 units.
You will do 5 mandatory units
Then you will choose 3 units out of 10: Either two practice and one law or two law and one practice, and they will have to link.
Then the final two units:

17 Legal Research
The second part is Level 6 Higher Diploma in Law and Practice. You will have to refer to the website for ... ...am doing it with the ILEX Tutorial College (ITC) (www.ilex-tutorial.ac.uk), this is a distance leaning college.
In my opinion, it's a fantastic alternative route into a legal career and it's so much cheaper than a degree.
If you do the level 3 course in a certain order (explained on ITC website), Each 5 units will amount to a qualification - Unit 1, two middle units, unit 16 + 17 = Certificate in Law and Practice
All 10 units = Diploma in Law ...

wide range of courses to choose from, you will know your results there and then, the big name employers recognise Brainbench
Not Free(Cost $8), new users might find the testing interface a bit strange, takes time to ship the certificate bearing in mind that i am still waitin (*)
