Hi my friends. I am back with my latest review. This review is on my favorite I-Mate Jam PDA. It's very hard job to select a product to write reviews which also satisfy the readers. I was also thinking and searching for a product on which I write review for you. Then finally select my PDA phone which I am using from more than 3 years. And now I am expert user of windows mobile. I-Mate Jam has many tremendous features, but features are also available on internet. The main theme of review is to convey your own experience with products to others.
I bought this PDA 2 year before from eBay online shop. On that time its prices was bit high. I bought this in 225 £. Basically in people opinion PDAs are only useful for business mans. I am also bit agree with them, but PDAs are not only for business mans, infect a normal person can also get utility (benefit) from them.
◘◘◘◘◘ MY THOUGHTS BEFORE BUYING THIS ◘◘◘◘◘
Before buying this PDA, I was the user of Nokia mobiles. And that Nokia set don't has any operating system. So I decided to buy a PDA which has windows mobile as well as touch screen function. Because I thought that I also use windows operating system on my computer and that is very user friendly. So one thing I make final that I should have to buy a PDA with windows mobile. But didn't decide yet which PDA? Then I go on eBay to search some PDA with windows mobile operating system. There I saw I-Mate Jam which was very reliable in price, look and features also. So I decided to take this one. And place order for it. I was very excited because I am going to use that PDA which I never use before. Also it will be my first experience with windows mobile operating system and touch screen.
After placing the order, I tell to my brother about this PDA. And he said "Bro infect it's not for your use, because you are Nokia user and student also, and these PDAs for business man's". But I was still satisfied with my choice. Because Nokia and Sony Ericsson I already using from more than 6 years. And I want change.
◘◘◘◘◘ ME & PDA ◘◘◘◘◘
After making the order, I was waiting for my phone. And at last phone was in my hand. When I opened its box, then I saw a very impressive and well looking PDA with shining screen and case. I was very happy on that day. I just quickly pick the phone, put my SIM in it and just switch it on. Then it takes some time to install windows mobile components and then finally run. Its LCD was bright and mind-blowing, because I never see the large LCD PDAs with touch screen function before.
Then I want to use its functions also, I try myself to see all functions of PDAs without manual help. But it was too hard to understand that. Then read it manual book, which was also very complex. First week after getting the PDA, I only read its manual.
When get some know how about its features and use. Then I show it to my friends. And they really impress with it. I was also very happy to get it. But I was not aware properly with the difficulties of touch screen without keyboard. My friend sends me SMS, and I go to reply him back. There I feel the great difficulty with touch screen keyboard. You can't believe I type my first SMS on touch screen PDA in 25 minutes. And the feature on which I am excited before buying PDA, I was sick after using that.
◘◘◘◘◘ INTERFACE ◘◘◘◘◘ "Interface: 8/10"
It external looks and interface is very simple, so that's why I like it more. Because I believe in, "simply the best" statement. It has 2.8 inch long display screen, 4 directional buttons, two buttons for rejecting and receiving the calls, two more for calendar and contacts. And no more button on front side. But have some shortcut buttons on left and right side of it. Camera, recording and volume up & down buttons are on left side and only power button is on right side. One thing is very easy on this PDA like other phones, that is accepting and rejecting call, because there buttons are on the front side. (LOL)
◘◘◘◘◘ CAMERA ◘◘◘◘◘ "Cam: 6/10"
It's also have dummy camera for shooting pictures. Ohhhhh sorry not dummy cam, it has 1.3 mega pixels of VGA cam but act as dummy cam. It result is very poor. And also don't have any flash light. On the left side of camera place a steel round shape ball act as mirror to shoot your own picture with this mobile. That is better. Because no need to request anyone to shoot your picture with your own PDA. You can do this by yourself.
I am saying that its camera is poor, because one night I have to go on my friend's birthday party. And I carry mine I-Mate Jam to shoot pictures rather than my digital camera. And when I start to taking pictures with it, you can't believe nothing should be displaying. All black. Its camera indoor result is very poor but it gives bit better outdoor results. So I recommend do not use its camera indoor.
◘◘◘◘◘ VOICE RECORDING ◘◘◘◘◘ "Recording: 10/10"
The tremendous feature of this PDA is voice recording. And its recording quality is best or you can say more than best and clear. You can also change the voice recording format, quality and destination where to store, In PDA memory or in memory card?
Whenever I have to send my voice to someone then I use its recording function. And still didn't have no complained.
Its sound is not very loud but very clear and cool. And you can up and down its volume easily by volume button which is place on the left side of phone. It runs WAV, MP3, MIDI and WMA format ring tone. But one thing is very bad that these three format tones are only for ringing tone not for alarm and message tone. On message and alarm tone you can set only WAV format. And WAV tones are heavy in size so that's why can't store more than 3-4 tones in PDA memory.
If you want to enjoy its music quality and sound then listens music in its headset. It provides tremendous sound in headset. You can also use a common headphone with it. Because it pin jack converters are easily available in the market and they cost only 0.50 £. I also use converter and use my Sony headphone with it for better sound.
◘◘◘◘◘ MEMORY ◘◘◘◘◘ "Memory: 7/10"
Phone memory is not enough for multimedia users but may be enough for business use. It has only 64 mega byte of memory which is also shared between storage and program. The PDA's windows mobile is also take 20 mega bytes. Its mean only 40 mega bytes are left for users. But you can upgrade its memory buy adding memory card. I am using 1 GB of memory card with it, because really very fond of music and can't store sound tracks on PDA memory.
◘◘◘◘◘ WINDOWS MOBILE ◘◘◘◘◘ "Rating: 7/10"
It has Microsoft Windows Mobile for Pocket PC 2003 Second Edition. The windows operating system of a computer and of PDA, both are entirely different in use and functions also. I also thought that its operating system was easy and user friendly like operating system of computer. But it is very hard to use windows in PDA. It also provides start button to show programs as well as display icons, support themes but still hard to use.
But recently Microsoft goes to launch Windows mobile version 6.0. And I hope so windows covers flaws in that.
◘◘◘◘◘ SOFTWARE's ◘◘◘◘◘ "Software's: 8/10"
One thing which I like more that you can install different kind of software's and games in it. But unfortunately most of windows mobile software's are paid and not free available. But on internet nothing is impossible. So you can find the cracked software's with serial numbers that can give you the full access of software features. It also has some tremendous built-in software's and games like internet explorer, windows media player, calendar, KSE True fax, MIDlet Manager, MSN messenger, Notes, Pictures, Pocket Excel, Pocket MSN, Pocket Word, SIM manager, Tasks, Wireless Modem, xBackup, Jawbreaker, Solitaire, and much more.
I customize my I-Mate with tremendous software's and 3d games. And it's really give impressive look.
◘◘◘◘◘ CONNECTIVITY ◘◘◘◘◘ "Connectivity: 9/10"
As you know it is PDA and PDAs must have too much connectivity functions and features. In which two Bluetooth and infrared are common. But it also has Network Cards, GPRS, CSD Line Type, Connections, etc. one thing is missing in it that is Wi-Fi. It doesn't have built-in Wi-Fi function. But you can add Wi-Fi card in it to use that feature.
The main and basic function which I use most is Bluetooth. Because whenever I am in my friends then I should have to use this function to share some excellent things. And the good thing is you can send more than 1 file to others at the same time. And mobile phones don't offer this. So it's a plus point in its Bluetooth. Beam function is also excellent. Because now days when your Bluetooth is on there is a fear of viruses and hacking attempts. So to save from those you just turn off receive all beam option. And in this way no one can send you any file. As there are some excellent features in it but also have one flaw that should be covered. It's never show the sending or receiving status of file while using the Bluetooth. But you can also get this facility by installing Bluetooth manager software.
◘◘◘◘◘ BUSINESS FEATURES ◘◘◘◘◘ "Features: 9/10"
PDAs are basically provides the functions for business users, like downloading e-mails, documentation, appointments, tasks, reminder, and much more. And I-Mate also provides these tremendous basic features which are very helpful for business mans. You were thinking that a multimedia user tells you about business use
◘◘◘◘◘ BATTERY LIFE ◘◘◘◘◘ "Battery performance: 8/10"
Mainly the battery life depends upon the consumer usage. Because it has large LCD for display so definitely its LCD consume more battery and power. If you watch video and pictures on it then it's hard to save battery power. But it has great talk and stand by time.
◘◘◘◘◘ Final analysis ◘◘◘◘◘ "Overall rating: 8/10"
I recommend it to all type of PDA users. But for using this you must have knowledge or experience of windows mobile. The users of common mobile phones feel difficulties in starting. But it comes with greatly loaded manual in which all things about its functions are clearly written. So a simple user can be expert by reading its manual carefully before using it.
Most of time I use it for multimedia functions like listening music and watching videos. And I am still happy with its performance.
Advantages: High spec, good looks, smallest PDA available and great value for money. Disadvantages: No intergrated WiFi and less RAM than some PDA's.
I first became addicted to Pocket PC’s with my HP IPAQ 4150 which was a birthday present from my husband. I quickly found I could not live without it.
Then when I came to renew my mobile phone contract I thought “wouldn’t it be great to have a Pocket PC and Phone in one”. A techie friend had showed my his Smartphone but after using a windows based Pocket PC I knew it wasn’t for me – I was clearly spoilt, I needed a user friendly interface and top ... ...i-mate.
I browsed the i-mate website, saw the JAM, and knew I had to have it.
So what is it…
The i-mate JAM is the smallest Windows Pocket PC available. It includes an internal GSM/GPRS Tri-band (900/1800/1900GSM) antenna for voice and data calls - perfect for picking up emails or surfing the web whilst on the move.

Advantages: Handy size, Sleek look, Large screen Disadvantages: No physical keypad, Short stylus takes getting used to
...right track by including the imate JAM in your shortlist. If you are looking just for a PDA, you might still want to give it a try. The imate JAM is undoubtedly one of the best PDA phones on the market.
About a year ago, my hubby started looking out for a PDA to get himself organised. Trust me, he 'needed' help :-) We soon realised one thing. The mobile phone has already become one of our limbs. We carry it everywhere, almost. For a PDA to be really ... ...generally wider. That's where the imate JAM really scored when it was introduced in the market. The imate JAM is only 5.8 cm wide x 10.8 cm long x 1.81 cm high, about 1/3rd smaller in size than comparable PDAs, which means that it is handy enough to be used as a phone.
Smartphones were the other alternative to consider, but were ruled out because they did not quite match up to the rich features provided by a PDA phone, though the distinction is ...
