If you have a stack of old vinyl records at home and are frequently quoted saying ' they don't make records like they used to' then the ION ITT USB turntable is the product that you need. Whilst a lot of the classic vinyl albums have been released on CD there are still many that are not available.
The turntable is made from sturdy plastic with clear easy to use controls.
The only assembly required is to put the head together and attach it to the turntable mount. Getting the balance correct is fundamental to record reproduction but the instructions are clear and the task is comparatively easy.
Software is included to load onto your computer and then connection is merely by means of a USB lead.
The turntable is capable of playing vinyl singles, EP's or LP's at sppeds of 33 or 45 prm.
Recording is simple. Play the vinyl on the turntable and copy to your computer in one of several formats including Mp3 and WAV. Once this is done you can transfer to I pod , burn the cd or listen via your computer.
One small niggle is that the start stop button is rather large and positioned in the rime of the turntable which makes it easy to turn off accidentally during use.
The makers have even remembered to include two plastic centres in case any of your old vinyl was once used on a juke box.
Three things should be borne in mind by potential purchasers. Firstly -the deck needs to be connected to the computer by usb cable. The turntable is quite large and so you need a flat space of about 18" square within usb cable reach. Secondly -converting vinyl to cd via the turntable is quite easy but it is time consuming when compared to the speed of burning cd's from I-Tunes . A single LP will take up to two hours so your stack of vinyl will not become a stack of cd's unless you are prepared to spend some serious time Thirdly - Once you have burnt all of your vinyl to CD what are you going to do with it?
Having had the ION for a few months I am pleased with it's performance. I am now enjoying listening to home burned cd's of music that I haven't heard for years and is not available on CD.
Advantages: Easy set up Disadvantages: None so far
This product is a turntable that plugs into your computer through a USB canle that enable you to record your vinyl collection onto harddrive (then disc/iPOD
Ok I've only had the turntable a couple of days and there is still a lot to learn about how to use the thing but from someone who knows nothing about this sort of thing it is very easy to get set up.
You open the box and if a technophobe think OH MY GOD fiddly bits but the instruction manual ... ...working within 20 minutes.
The turntable comes with software that you use to record onto your harddrive (and then can be put onto CD or iPOD). There are facilities within the software to 'clean up' the vinyl sound and delete unwanted noise which are also pretty easy to use.
I have been looking for a CD version of one of my albums for ages with no luck so this has been a really good buy.
I have no idea whether techies will find this a good product ...

Advantages: Transfers old vinyl to CD - USB Disadvantages: Gimick soon loses its appeal
...Not only that the ION iTT allows you to convert your LP's to CD using a windows usb compatible pc.
GENIUS!!!! You'd think.
Yes but you gotta be prepared for the lengthy job you have on to do this.
Converting vinyl to cd isn;t a quick process. Playing through then cleaning up and then burning can take a good couple of hours per record and so can be rather frustrating when you got a box of the damn vinyls.
I would say that this is deffinately the ... ...get on CD.
Which summarising questions the cost for benefit. Decisions yours but longevity is deffinately an issue for me.
Might be useful for DJ's who want to sample stuff but then most dj's will have suitable equipment to sample of vinyl anyway and you wouldn't be using USB. ...

As Christmas is approaching Hubby's Christmas List has appeared as usual. Most women I know say they never know what to buy their Hubbies but I never have that problem. He loves music, reading, gadgets and technology and this year had just one main present in mind. Top of the list was a USB turntable so that he can condense his much loved music collection onto discs and our computer. A few years ago he wanted, and received, a Pioneer CD writer. This was one that was linked to his Stereo, however now, that he is much more computer literate, he wanted a piece of equipment that would enable him to utilise the computer for recording from vinyl.
Enter the IonUSB turntable.
Of course it is only the beginning of December but such Christmas presents need to be inspected, tested and tried 'just in case'. So here is what he has found up to ...

Advantages: Uncluttered, easy-to-use, good-sound Disadvantages: Lack of information in instruction manual, fairly large space required
of the turntable is constrained by the size of an LP. You also need a good 35cm of headroom above the turntable to allow the dust-cover to open fully (although the turntable operates fine as long as there is enough room to get records onto the platter).
The design of the turntable is distinctly retro, quite cool I think, and it feels very well made and solid.
You can either use the USB connection (a USB cable is included in the box) to connect the turntable to your computer, allowing software playthrough (you can listen to records using your computer speakers via your computer) and digital recording (to create MP3 files from your vinyl, etc), or you can invest in a phono cable in order to connect straight to a pair of speakers with an auxiliary input socket or a 3.5mm input lead. I'll explain this more clearly below:
If you have speakers ...

Advantages: Simple to use Disadvantages: Bad sound quality at times
I bought one of these turntables a while ago because it seemed ideal for me. You can plug it into your hi-fi in the same way you would a normal turntable but without the need for earthing it. This obviously is not it's main attraction. It also has a USB connection so you can plug it into your computer and record records from it.
I have been collecting records for many years now of all shapes and sizes; 12", 10", 7", 45 rpm, 33 rpm, 78 rpm, etc... And was desperate to find a device that meant I could record these and have them on my iPod as some tracks are still not available on CD or digital format. On the whole, this device does the job.
It has 2 playing speeds that are the standard 33 rpm and 45 rpm. Sadly no 78 which is a shame but I suppose there is little call for it. It also comes with the small circular disc you can use ...
