• • • WHY DID I BUY IT? • • •

This seems to be the age of the iPods but I’m not a fan of the iPod because of the battery life and because everyone’s got one. It’s a fashion statement. You’re walking down the street, you see people with the white earphones and ...
...fans). My friend bought an iRiver and told me about it. He told me it could play MP3’s and even movies. I looked it up, and read a review about it, after that, I had to get one!

• • • WHAT WERE MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS? • • •

The player fits nicely in my hand. It looks good but it’s bulkier than its 40GB rival, the Apple iPod and is about twice the depth but it does have an LCD colour screen and lots of features. The exterior ... more

The MAMA of all mp3 players...

Advantages: The player
Disadvantages: what are you talking about?

IRiver is an American company selling portable audio equipment (mp3 player, cd players…). I discovered them by chance a couple of years ago. It was in Switzerland. My girlfriend (at the time) was looking for a mp3 player, and the seller advised us the brand Iriver, apparently the best on the market. At the time, it was a 256MB mp3 player, with radio and voice recorder included. The little thing looked weird to be honest (like a mini electric shaver) ...
...for this memory storage, the Iriver was the best compared to its competitors. I then went on their website in America to check the prices there. I discovered their latest mp3 player, the IHP-120 which is actually a hard drive (20GB), with radio and voice recorder for about £250. I own that puppy for 2 years, and had absolutely no problem with it… However, as a big music fan, the 20GB started to be too small… SO I decided to upgrade it to the 40GB ...

big momma

Advantages: .ogg file support, plays video files, can be used as hard disk
Disadvantages: chunky, uncomfortable controls

...at that time mainly iPod, iriver or creative Zen. There were others around but these are the only decent ones. the main reasons i went for the iriver was that it seemed the better deal. It had better specs than the other two and was cheaper too. But there are lots of things other than that and i will try to get through these below. the iriver is slightly bigger and thicker that the iPod 40GB model and a little bit heavier too. It has a large colour ...
...quite toned down. Nevertheless, the iriver makes up for it by amazing specs otherwise. The H340 supports all common audio formats including .ogg. Other players do not have this unless you hack them. .Ogg is a best format at the moment and has the best audio quality for size. With the upgraded firmware, you can also play video files and movies! You only have to convert the original with the software provided and then drag-and-drop into the player. ...

I-River is the new MP3

Advantages: Great sounding playback, easy file management, user friendly
Disadvantages: Accessories are hard to come by

I purchased this item a few years ago, and can honestly say, after owning another leading brand MP3 player (which I thought couldn't be match in terms of quality), this product is amazing. Far better than any other MP3 player I have owned, or listened to. The sound quality is fantastic, it is by far the most user friendly player on the market today. And as well as storing music, you are also able to store computer files, photos, and much more. And ...
...is much cheaper than other leading brands, and you get much, much more for your money. The headphones which come with this product are of the highest standard, and you understand just how good the quality of sound from this tiny little thing is. I would definately recommend this item to anyone looking for an MP3 player. ...

If you have the money, get one.

Advantages: Clear, bright colour screen, excellent sound quality, good price, made of bricks.
Disadvantages: idiots will ask you why you didn't buy an Ipod. ;)

...everything from them onto the iRiver once a day, when i'm away from my PC. It's incredibly useful. The iRiver will even control other MP3 players, letting you transfer songs to and from them. You can store whatever you want on your iRiver, because it mounts itself as an additional external hard drive on your pc, allowing you to drag and drop. No DRM nonsense here. :) There's an FM tuner, but i generally hate listening to the radio, it's the same ...
...about on my iRiver. iRiver quote 16hrs of battery life, and i must admit i get pretty near to that on most occasions. I rarely see less than 12hrs off a 3 hour charge, and that's with me tansferring from the camera, to my girlfriend's mp3 player, and all sorts. I only play mp3 and view jpegs on it though, i don't bother with OGG or WMA, so i can't comment on the effect that has on battery life. It just keeps going on and on. It's a built-in battery ...

The iPod beater

Advantages: Features, sound, reliability!
Disadvantages: Navigation can be slower than its competitor

An excellent MP3 player, iRiver really is the alternative to the iPod - and isn't lacking in features! It sounds superb and the sound levels are impressive. It also features the ability to save .txt files and pictures files to the system (which cannot be watched with music - but why waste battery power like certain other mp3 players seem to want you to do) - as well as having a radio. The battery life is actually quite impressive (even after having ...

H300 series

Advantages: Supports multiple codecs, easy to use
Disadvantages: Slightly bulky once in case. Battery isn't so great.

The iRiver H300 series (covering H320, H320SE, H340, H340SE, where 20 and 40 are 20GB and 40GB respectively, and SE is the light edition which doesn't come with a remote) is an excellent jukebox. I call it a jukebox, not only because it says it is one, but calling it an MP3 player would not suffice. This device supports multiple codecs, including MP3, WMA, OGG-Vorbis, WAV, ASF, AVI (using MP4 compression), and many more (you may have to update the firmware to achieve these). This makes it an ideal player for those who have songs in different formats, and don't want to lose quality and money converting them into MP3. Or for people who want excellent quality in a small file size, choose to use OGG-Vorbis (.ogg). Personally, I find this the best compression, and is on comparison to (if not beating) the MPEG-4 Audio (.m4a used by the i ...
