This programme is possibly THE most irritating thing on the telly yet what am I doing now? I am watching it! noooo!! If only I could reach the remote to turn it over!
I used to watch this a lot about 4 years ago whilst I was at uni, it was quite exciting then and lets be honest, anything would be more thrilling than sitting through lectures on neuroscience! Now though when I watch it i find myself groaning and getting really fed up of it.
The idea of the show is to give someone's house a make over in just an hour. The designer meets the family, looks around the house and 4 rooms are then made over this involves decorating, furnishing, making things etc.
The owner then comes home, is supposedly surprised by the cameras and the team and is overjoyed by their make over.
What annoys me.. I cannot believe how many people get on this show who have a sob story. I looked on their website and the application form even has a space for you to write what prblems they've had in their lives! Sob story TV is taking over! They never have 'i've just not had time to do my house up myself because i work 9-5 n i spend all my money on going on holiday' they only ever have 'i've fostered 16 children, I've only got one eye, i have no money because i donate it all to the donkey sanctury and i grow my own carpets'...
I also get annoyed by the over dramatic designers who completely bulldoze their way through their ideas. Just now: relative: "My mother doesn't like feature walls' Designr: "Well you've come to the wrong show!" And then he makes a designer wall.
I always notice that the make over i salways really shoddy too! Look beyond the big things and you'll see it too. I've seen a bed which was too big that the wardrobe doors couldn't open. Plug sockets hanging off the wall. Huge bubbles in the wallpaper. Half finished tiling.
It would stress me out if I returned home from a day out to see that lot in my house! I'd be very annoyed to see all my stuff flung in a skip on my front garden whilst all my neighbours gathered on the street to have a good nosey!
Terri Dweyer presents this, it used to be Clare Smiley and they are both very enthusiastic and ask the designeer lots of simple questions supposedly so us viewers could do the things ourselves.
I think the programme is just getting a bit too much now, it's been on for long enough and nothing new has happened over these years, the concept needs to change a bit now.
It's fun to watch so you can see the before and after but that's about all!

Haha, I was watching this yesterday for some reason and screaming at the TV, I would go mad if someone painted that quickly and just put up wallpaper and moved all the furniture back. I always have to do at elast three coats of paint in my house so they must have more then 60 minutes?! Lisa
