Advantages: Brucie! Good prizes - tacky Disadvantages: Little different from one programme to the next - but then that's why I like it!

A voice from nowhere: "Here we go! It's Britain's biggest game show!..." the cameras centre on the sliding doors - two stagehands behind the set slide the doors open to reveal Brucie - undoubtedly the king of gameshows - standing in his comical 'muscleman' pose.
The crowd goes wild, cheering, clapping and whooping for all they're worth. Brucie feigns disbelief at the crowd's warm welcome, as he does every week, and a new "Price is Right" has begun.
The Price is Right has always been a favourite of mine, so when I got the chance to go and be in the audience with some of my work colleagues, I couldn't get down there fast enough!
Your evening begins in Yorkshire TV's canteen which is a bizarre space with bright purple and green walls and plenty of modern seating! You and your friends get to sit around drinking for an hour whilst a compere gets the crowd going - if you thought that only mad people become audience members at the Price is Right, you're wrong: they're just like you and me, only thing is, by the time they get in there everyone's half cut...
Do contestants know?
Many people think that contestants know they have been picked before they go on the show - this isn't true though. The producers of the show and a few researchers mingle in the canteen and make selections in the hour or so before the programme is filmed: everyone signs a waiver agreeing to be on the show before they go into the studio. Although the producers obviously try to pick people that bring a bit of fun to the show, the contestants have no idea they've been picked until they get asked to "Come on down".
What you can't see on the television is that there is a stagehand holding up a board with each contestant's name on it as they are called out: this is to avoid more than one person standing up - and audience members are advised to read the board before standing up in case it's not them!
What's Brucie like?
No matter what your age I think factor in going to see the Price is Right being filmed is the chance to meet Bruce Forsythe. He doesn't disappoint, coming out to meet the audience whilst sets are being changed over - and generally keeping the audience in good spirits. He's possibly a lot taller in real life that you imagine from the television, and you will notice that his hair looks like it has been ironed!
It's not like shouting at the television!
I don't know about you, but when the Price is Right is on TV I yell at the screen - despite the fact that
a) the contestant can't hear me b) I know damn well it isn't live
When you start shouting "more" "less" "yes" "no" in the studio and making the appropriate gesticulations, to influence their decision, it suddenly strikes you that it's not like being at home: your actions actually do have an influence on what the outcome may be!
The studio
The first thing you notice when you walk in is the size of the studio - it's tiny! It looks much much bigger when the show is broadcast owing to the design of the set - the silver panels behind the audience are set against black cloth, making the studio look larger when the show is on TV - there are lots of little tricks like this used - such as changing the lights on the set to make it look like another part of the studio - it's basically all done by moving bits around. Watch closely next time the program's on - the "Range Finder" isn't separate at all - the "plunger" simply plugs in to a hole in the floor and the screen is wheeled in.
The audience shots are taken from a camera mounted on a boon which swoops across a large portion of the audience (you only ever see the audience from the left!) be careful if you are asked to sit on that side of the studio - don't stand up - you might get hit!
Etiquette
When I watch the Price is Right at home - I love it when the contestants lose! I know it's mean, but I laugh and laugh and laugh. I found, through looks from my fellow audience members, that this is not appropriate behaviour.
It just so happened that the contestant overbid on the "Showcase Showdown" and lost £17,500 worth of prizes. As the rest of the audience collectively said "Aaaaaah" I sat laughing maniacally - I was sat directly beneath an audience microphone and could be heard reasonably clearly when the show went out on TV.
If you giggle when the lose - button it!
Watching a TV programme being made is always fascinating for me. This show is a classic format and Brucie ensures it's continued longevity. I hope this opinion gives you a light-hearted insight into how the programme is made.

I have to say that its nice to see Brucie still as popular as ever with the general public. He is an enetertainment God and deserves his place as the king of the British gameshow, but sometimes you have to wonder about the shows he has presided over. The Price Is Right is one of his least impressive offerings if you ask me, but is still quite entertaining in a rather numb-brained sort of way.
I vaguely remember someone else doing this show before ... ...face behind the mic, little else seems to have altered. The concept is simple. People in the audience are assigned a number when they enter and are all prospective contestants. A computer randomly(so they say), picks a selection of these to "Come On Down" as the catchphrase goes, prompting a variety of reactions but as yet nobody tumbling head over heals to the bottom of the stairs :o(. Yeah I know, cruel, but I just wanna see it once! Maybe they ...

Advantages: Entertaining Disadvantages: Those people who showcase the prizes
Why is it that on Bruces Price is Right, the prices of stuff always seem so hi?? Maybe its just me, but they seem to be exagdurating on the prices quite a lot. And why does Bruce Forsyth have to have tall, big breasted blond girls showcasing the prizes in each of his prgrams? Is it to make him look good, or to attract audiences! He gets them to dress up in suck skimpy outfits sometimes, i have never seen them in any other clothing apart from figure ... ...actually a very entertaining gameshow. Contestants have to guess the price of several different items, ranging from furniture, to electronics, to cars. If they guess the right ammount (while playing games to help them guess) they win that prize. They then go through to the final, in whch 3 contestants spin a big wheel in the aim to get 100 points off 2 spins. Whoever has the highest number at the end of their 2 spins wins to go on and guess the ammount ...

Advantages: Good prizes, contestants Disadvantages: Poor jokes, general cheapness, not in popular style of game shows
ITV has been full of them in the past few years, in my opinion. Innuendo filled game shows. There are so many game shows that are cheaply produced on the channel, and, although this one isn't as bad at all with the prizes (there are often prizes amounting to more than £30,000 available per show), the style and atmosphere of the show, and the jokes made by Bruce are ust generally cheap and don't work.
Although these kinds of jokes may have been popular ... ...anymore.
I wouldn't recommend this show to anyone as I feel, although it is better than some game shows on ITV (eg. Wheel of Fortune), the standard really isn't high enough to make an entertaining watch. Not one of the best on TV - stick to 'The Weakest Link'. ...

Advantages: get prices Disadvantages: embrassing name badges
Bruce's Price Is Right is back on Saturdays from 7p.m till 7.30 p.m.
It's hosted by the man himself Bruce Forsyth. It's a consumer goods quiz show where members of the audience are picked at randam.Four people are on at any given time.
Today the first four contestants were: Baz, Mel, Richard, and Kerry. They and the rest of the audience were all wearing name badges.
The first bid was for a "Gypsy Lady" ornament, which looked a bit tacky to me.Mel's ... ...was £395.
She then had to play "Pick A Number" game on the price of some go- carts.Mel said 7 and it was 8.She still got to play showcase showdown later dispite losing!!
Dave, then takes Mel's place (lucky him) and is introduced to the others.
Next bid is on a Bar Clock and the bids start at £125 and end on £260.Baz is the nearest with £185 as the real price was £200.(Most of the prices are over priced and not really needed, except for the car)

...the whole time! I think ITV are using it to fill the gaps in their schedules as I can see no other reason why they would want to show 'Bruce's price is right'. It's one of those shows where the prizes look tacky and no skill are required for you to win.
The thing I find most irritating about this show are the collection of brain-dead assistants that wear tacky matching outfits and stand there grinning and pointing at ... ...the models have to pretend to ride the prize motorbike or something- it looks too ridiculous for words!
I think this kind of gameshow is out of date and boring. I'm always amazed by the kind of prizes that are up for offer. They appear to be the most useless items ever and the contestents themselves don't always look too impressed.
ITV: do yourself a favour and put something decent on! ...
