Heartbeat has been one of the most successful ITV drama series of the last twenty years. The exploits of its country policeman hero and his wife - solicitor Jackie Brown - But hey hasn't she just left Mike Bradley YES!!! How dare she!!! It pulls in up to 17 million veiwers an episode, and regularly challenges Coronation Street in the weekly ratings war!
Set in the sixties, Heartbeat and its gentle nostalgia has proven quite irresistible. Its leading actors were: Nick Berry and Niamh Cusack now replaced by characters Mike Bradley - Jason Durr- and the rest of the policemen. Some of the cast members include: Ex-Sergent Oscar Blaketon - Derek Fowlds Claude Jeremiah Greengrass - Bill Maynard PC Alf Ventress - William Simons PC Phil Bellamy - Mark Jordon Gina Ward - Tricia Penrose Other characters are brought in and played by children young and old from around the Small village of Goathland where this is set. I have been lucky enough to meet nearly all of the characters from this ever growing tv series, and have all there autographs.
However, Heartbeat isn't all its cracked up to be now a days. I do think that the producers have 'lost the plot' a little, the storylines are more-or-less the same, and there is no change with the regular Sunday night episode. The plot is based around either : Murder, or a typical burgelury.
Since Nick Berry, Niamh Cusack and sadly now Bill Maynard ( due to his stroke) have now left, i feel that there is no beat left in the Heartbeat.
Although, this has happened i myself will still continue to watch the programme until it eventually dies down. I would recommend you visit N.Yorkshire and Goathland in which this is set, it is in the heart of the Moors and running through is the ever popular North York Moors Railway. A great day out for the family.
There are plenty of B/B's and you could even book into the 'Adensfield Arms AKA The Goathland Hotel. Or across the road there is situated 'The Inn On the Moor' where the cast members stay when filming. Filming is in fact taking place now, and as i have said i have met most members you might even see them your self!! Good look
Also available are the Heartbeat album on CD which includes some 60s songs that are used as backing tracks for the series.
Advantages: Great previous series Disadvantages: Comnig up to its expiry date!
Heartbeat is a weekly program shown every Sunday at 8pm on ITV. (Channel 3) This last week gone was unfortunately the last in the series but I'm sure the next series will be out soon and I hope just as good. Heartbeat is one of the longest showing TV programs that I've known, it has been around for years and years but has only recently grabbed the attention of the millions of people in our country. The drama was aimed at older people, a police drama ... ...countryside but recently I've realised the program has become more of an interest to younger people like myself. Instead of talking about Eastenders and Brookie, many people have turned to Heartbeat! Just how un-real can it get!
The program which is a 60's drama set in Aidensfield, a lovely set but unfortunately the village Aidensfield does not exist in real life! Goathland on the North York Moors is a real place and is very near the set. A lot ...

Sunday evenings, peak hour, family viewing, ITV, the forum for plebs everywhere, operating at the lowest common denominator and effortlessly churning out bland family entertainment at its most wholesome and cosy without so much as a crease disturbing the oh so smooth exterior.
Institutions rarely come more dull and unremarkable than this and the rustic charms of the Yorkshire Dales certainly have an awful lot to answer for - you've got three stupid ... ...attractive sheep in Emmerdale and most tedious of all the combination of the faceless, those lacking in charisma, the feckless renegades and the upholders of moral rectitude in Aidensfield which make up the epitome of family entertainment - the one, the only, the drably dull, Heartbeat.
A crap and dull series revolving around a 60's Yorkshire village and its homely police force, which progressed serenely on when baby face Nick Berry moved on to ...

Advantages: excellent stories, good strong characters Disadvantages: Claude Greengrass has gone!
...If its not on ITV anymore then then I am sure you can watch it on Satellite telly, its always on and no matter how many times I watch it its never boring.:0)
In summary:
The soundtrack is excellent
The characters are all very memorable
The story lines are all gripping and sometimes have a nice twist
The only thing I am not happy about is the lack of Greengrass, might set up a "Bring back Claude" campaign! :0)
As to the title of this opinion, ...

Advantages: Great scenery and storylines Disadvantages: Has been going a long time and new material is scarce
Heartbeat, is a brillant 60's Police Drama. It is set in the fictional village of Aidensfield which doubles up as Goathland on the North York Moors in real life.
Heartbeat is currently in it's tenth series and filming is due to start on an eleventh series in April.
Perhaps now though I feel we are reaching saturation point and the writers are clearly struggling to come up with new storylines that have never been used before.
This is understandable ... ...this long.
When Nick Berry left a few years ago everyone said that would be the death of the show but this has proved not to be the case.
Jason Durr came in and has done a good job playing PC Mike Bradley.
There are now rumours that he is about to quit as well and as the nurse Maggie Bolton has quit and Bill Maynard ( Greengrass ) has had his contract terminated the show is I fear beginning to hit the rocks.
It has had a good run mind and the ...

Advantages: suitable for the family Disadvantages: can be slow at times
The good old fashioned police series filmed here where I live in yorkshire, its really a good watchable series, based in the 60's it revolves round the local constabularly and the crimes!!.it is a very light programme suitable for any ages and is also very funny at times thanks to greengrass and his dodgy dealings!!
The good thing with this also is the soundtrack, you get some really good classic 60's tracks thrown in. However i think a lot of the ...

was far from Happy but there was plenty of talking in it.
Don’t worry Fred even if you do loose, which you will just remember
“You got to have a dream,
If you don't have a dream
How you gonna have a dream come true?”
And dreaming is about as near to winning as he got
Unfortunately Fred was finally given the order of the boot last night, and left the show with great dignity and magnanimity, being up against the indomitable Tara Palmer Thompkinson, and Tricia Penrose in the bottom three.
He was rubbish and now he is gone, that is about all there is to say, other than I hope his comedy material stacks up better than his singing , it’s back to the Funny Farm for you Fred.
TRICIA PENROSE
Although Tricia is best known for pulling pints and flashing her knockers, behind the bar, in ITV1's long ...
