Advantages Nice to reminise year's top music
Disadvantages Always Westlife?
Last night's Record of the Year could have been compared to the football premiership, i.e. instead of Mancester United leading the rest of the bunch, Westlife could have been predicted to win. When I first realised the show was on, I asked my partner which songs Westlife had in.
Maybe I am just too old for it all? A sore loser? I don't know. I just think same old same old when I hear each new Westlife song and thought, on the other hand, that Spiller's song "Groovejet" was far more original and worthy, as were "Reach" by S Club 7 and "Rock DJ" by Robbie Williams. The one good thing the show did this year better than last year was the scoring system - a points system of 1 to 10 instead of just adding up the number of votes - which was good if Craig David won in a particular region with only 2,000 votes, compared to Robbie winning in a bigger region with 30,000 votes - this meant the results were uniform and equal.
Roll on 2001. Let's hope we have some more original tunes out next year.
