Personally I dont like the title I Can Make You Thin I would prefer slimmer to Thin.
BUT
Would you like to feel really happy with your body? Are you unable to lose those last 10 pounds? Do you find it difficult to say no to second helpings? Do you get disheartened about your eating habits and your weight? Then this amazing book and CD can help you!
That is what is written on the back of the book.
BUT could it really work?
I have been on numerous diets from weight watchers to slimming world to rosemary Connolly to Atkins.
I have always lost weight. However as soon as I start eating 'normally' again the weight piled on and more. Paul says congratulations on your weight loss using a diet. Come back in 6 months and tell me about your diet then. Back in January it suddenly hit me like a boulder running down the hill that on Wednesday 23rd of February it was my eldest's daughters 14th birthday. I weighed more then than I did full term with her. Something had to be done. The last diet I had been on was Atkins and I was successful in losing nearly 3 stone, however having the builders in whilst extending my kitchen meant getting out of the routine of preparing Atkins food I came off the diet. It wasn't a conscious decision to come off Atkins, more a 'It's too late to make dinner now lets have a take-away meal'. So 6 month later I weighed more than before I started Atkins. Hands up all you dieters that have done that. So I set about preparing myself (last night pizza and loads of booze
booked) to restart Atkins.
Then I received a phone call from another serial dieter that happens to be my friend. 'I've just been Paul Mckenna'd' she laughed down the phone. She then explained to me that the hypnotist Paul McKenna had brought out a book and CD that boasts 'I CAN MAKE YOU THIN'. She explained that the night before herself and her husband had listened to the CD and she felt invigorated. She also said that she felt it was working because half way through her breakfast she stopped eating because she was full.
Now I was sceptical. A CD that stops you eating? Can it be true?
Off I wobbled to Asda to go and buy this mysterious book and CD (they had it on special offer).
That night I encountered my first battle. Where in this house of music could I find a CD player that I could use without any distractions from the kids or my husband. (we have a CD player in every room apart from my own bedroom!). So I chucked my eldest out of her room and settled back to listen to the CD.
I concentrated very hard listening to the voice, counting backwards from 300 (think I got to about 274) and then trying even harder to concentrate on what he was saying. He says that you will not go unconscious but that your conscious will be altered. 30 minutes later-WOW he was telling me to wake up. What had happened? I am sure I stayed 'awake' throughout it all, yet there was something different.
That night I read the book. He explains that diets are bad. How many diet books do you have that all start with the words 'This is not a diet?' Yet they then restrict what you can eat? So what is different from his book if his book isn't a diet?
"A diet is any system of eating that attempts to exert external control over what, where, when or how much you can eat"
This book does not do any of the above. Paul teaches you to listen to your body.
The book contains 7 chapters. These are 1. Are you ready for something truly different? 2. The simplest weight-loss system in the world 3. Programme your mind to slim your body 4. Overcoming emotional eating 5. The truth about exercise 6. Craving Busters 7. Frequently asked questions about the simplest weight-loss system min the world. Then there is the final note.
The book is spaced with testimonials from people who have attendee his weight loss seminars or done the book and CD.
1. Eat only when you are hungry 2. Eat what you want, not what you think you should 3. Eat consciously and enjoy every mouthful 4. When you think your are full, stop eating
The above may look and sound stupid. Who eats when they aren't hungry-I do when I am bored. Who eats what they think they should eat not what they want to eat? Well I did every time I was on a diet (got to eat loads of veg; can't have pizza!). Who doesn't eat consciously? I did, I would have a full plate then it would be gone. I didn't remember every mouthful and I hadn't savoured every bite. Who eats when they are full? How many times have you cleaned your plate totally just because it would be a waste to leave the food and then ended up having to open the buttons on your jeans?
Paul explains it all. You can eat whatever you want. Every Friday night I still have my pizza (totally forbidden on any diet). I just don't eat it all. I still drink (Bacardi and coke is my favourite in case you wondering). I have been doing the CD every day for about 3 weeks now. I have removed (don't want to use the word lost-it implies I want it back) nearly a stone. Now I know I could have removed the same amount doing Atkins or weight watchers BUT I have enjoyed this removal of weight because I have been able to eat the food that I normally eat, and been able to still have a drink.
I can honestly say that when I begin to feel full I stop eating. I may be hungry again in an hour, in which case I will go and have something else to eat and again will stop eating that when I think I am full.
I HAVE RESIGNED FROM THE CLEAN PLATE CLUB
I have also stopped forcing my kids to clean their plates. As Paul said, the argument that some starving child in Africa would be grateful for that food doesn't mean I or my kids have to eat that food. Me cleaning my plate won't make that kid think-wow they ate that food just for me.
I read part of the book each day. I have it in my car so when I am waiting for the kids to come out of school I read it. The CD I also listen to each day. Only now I do it straight from coming in from work-I put on my headphones with my daughters old CD walkman and lie down. 30 Minutes later it's done. The weird thing about listening to it with headphones on is that you become aware of Paul saying different things into each ear. Listening to it each day reinforces what you are doing and you become aware of things that you haven't consciously heard before.
Since I started with this book and CD quite a few work colleagues have also bought it. They are all removing weight. And we have all resigned from the clean plate club and the food police. If one of us is eating a packet of crisps, we no longer give each other questionable looks of "I thought you were on a diet".
I bought the book whilst it was on offer in Asda for £5.99. The recommended price is £9.99.
If nothing else, to have an excuse for me to be able to take 30 minutes of ME time makes this money well spent.
I promise to, to come back in 6 months and tell you if this programme is still working.
Let's hope it does!!
OK I NEVER CAME BACK IN 6 MONTHS---I FORGOT!
The truth is that if I could really find the time to listen to this CD every day (rather than for a few weeks) it probably would work. But as usual with all 'diet/non diet/weight removing products" I have bought before I got lazy and stopped using it. I have now decided the only way for me to remove weight is to join a slimming club (I have been at WW since January and succesfully removed over 2 stone-its not the weight removal that is to be congratulated here more the length of time I have stuck with it)
So would I still recomend it-yes if you are someone who can motivate themselves into sticking with something - if you find it all too easy to get distracted.

I would be interested in knowing if it is still working for you? I have the book... haven't had a chance to listen to the CD yet. Sounds good though... Kat x

Excellent review, and sounds like it is really working for you. I have heard some really good things about this book/CD and wondered if it could really be true - seems it is!
