I am not a big fan of butter so you may wonder why I have chosen to write a review on a margarine spread which by its very name "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" obviously pretends to be good enough to fool the consumer into thinking that they are actually eating butter when in fact they are eating margarine. You may ask yourself also why I currently have two 500g tubs of this fake butter stuff sitting in the bottom of my fridge. The answer to these questions are quite simple. Following a recent trip to the supermarket I forget to buy my regular spread which tends to be Flora margarine so I ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages To numerous to mention here

I was going to review something marvellous today, but as mr zeeman has thrown a bit of a tantrum recently, I thought I would harness the current sullen mood to describe something particularly nauseating … Emulsified Grease. … And in particular, a formulation of emulsified grease blighted with the cumbersome name of: “I can’t believe it’s not butter”. Yes folks, whilst other lumps of butter and margarine are snappily referred to by single nouns such as “Clover”, “Flora”, or “Anchor”, the PR bods at Unilever have seen fit to use a ridiculous phrase instead. Actually though, I’m assuming that ... more

I consider a loaf of fresh bread straight from the bakers a treat (yep I'm easily pleased), I am not fussy if it is a tin or twist, it must be fresh, crusty and above all unsliced. The pleasure of eating a slice freshly cut and buttered has always and always will be one I cherish. I am not bothered about how good or bad it is for my health, calories and fats really do not sway me from what is at the end of the day a simple pleasure. The downside with butter has always been its ability to not let me spread it onto the bread. Imagine for one moment, passing a bakery and the smell of freshly ... more

I have never been a fan of any of the alternatives to real butter mainly because they always taste strange on toast, I have tried a few because they are supposed to be better for you and they are also always cheaper, but although they have tasted ok on sandwiches I have always reverted back to real butter so I could enjoy my toast. Last month I was staying with my mother in law and she made us some toast for breakfast I have never enjoyed toast at her house because she always uses one of the alternative spreads as she can not eat real butter because it gives her indigestion. This time my toast ... more

Advantages Advantages Better for you than butter, spreads easily from the fridge.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Pricey and doesn't taste like butter.

My wife and daughter buy this fake butter as they are "scared" to eat the real thing, I also think they don't like it that much! I tried it recently out of curiosity (along with several other brands I've tried over the years) and it does not taste like butter at all (what a surprise)! The only good things to say about it are, it spreads from the fridge and is better for you than butter. It's not that cheap and Asda's "you'd butter believe it" is closer to a butter taste but in my opinion, all these butter alternatives are far away from the real thing. If you don't eat many things that need ... more
