-Ibanez IC400 Iceman-
Wow, i have not written a review in YEARS! Since 2005! I feel like my heads about to explode. You'll have to bare with me on this one cause ive got to get back into the swing of things.
As with every guitar, the Iceman has a history. Hoshino Gakki, the developer of the Iceman, wanted to make a distinctly Japanese looking guitar, as, before this time, Ibanez had been making replica copies of Fender Strats and Gibson Les Pauls and such. So after a meeting between Ibanez, and another guitar manufacturer, Greco, the "Iceman" design was born. Ibanez got the distributing rights for outside of Japan, and Greco for in Japan. Thats pretty much the history. So now for the guitar itself!!
I picked it up second hand from ebay for about 350 quid, although you can buy them new nowadays for anywhere between 420 and 470 pounds.
In my OPINION (after all, this is what its about, right?) the guitar is an awesome shape. Its so different yet it doesnt look like it juts out or is a bit odd like a lot of "heavy metal" guitars (See: BC Rich Warlock) to understand what i mean. It's also lightweight, especially in comparison to guitars such as Les Pauls, which are very heavy. If i had one bad thing to say about it, it would be the size of the headstock (the bit at the top for you non-musicians). I just find it a bit bigger than it needs to be, especially seeing as the machine heads are 3 on each side, rather than 6 on the top.
Technically, its a great guitar. Super 2000, Triple Coil and V2 pickups are used in this guitar. What does that mean? I have no idea - but it sounds great! Its got a 3 channel pickup selector and 2 pickup volume selectors and 2 tone knobs which is always good. So whatever amplifier your using, straight away youve got a large variation of tone at your fingertips without even touching the amp.
Further onto the technical side, from the view of players - the guitar has a very low action, so its perfect for people who like to have a bit of a go on the fretboard. Although my Iceman doesnt have it, i know for a fact that you can get a whammy bar fitted. It has 24 jumbo frets and chrome hardware.
What else is there to say? It sounds beautiful through any amp. Its an absoloutely brilliant guitar, which is why it is the favoured choice of:
