I emailed ICICI to tell them this, and they emailed me back to explain the direct debits were there so I could control the amount to be transferred to and from the account - oops, I'd already cancelled them! Luckily because the direct debit was initially set up the money can still get back into my current account (I played around moving fivers back and forth to see how long it would take to get from one account to the other!)
Nineteen ... ...up completely and ready to use, and I've been using it ever since for savings and for transferring money back into my current account.
I understand from other people that there were a few teething problems with accounts being opened as the company wasn't prepared for the overwhelming response from new customers as a result of being at the top of so many best buy tables. ...of 2007. Although ICICI are an Indian bank, this particular account is handled by their UK operation (ICICI Bank UK PLC) and thus is authorised and regulated by the FSA. It is also a member of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme which I believe means that under the Financial Servies and Market Act of 2000 that if for some reason they were unable to repay the funds in your acocunt (in the unlikely event they went bust for example) you are able ... ...by logging on to the ICICI website using a Login ID number and a password. Although is easier to call it a passcode as it it purely numeric. No alphabetical/punctuation characters are permitted in the password.
Interest paid on your savings at the end of the month. There is no facility however to have interest automatically paid into your linked account, however, through personal preference I'd prefer my interest to be earning interest.
