"Not So Ideal Soggy Doggy"

Soggy Doggy is a fun game of shaking and bathing. It is so much fun trying not to make the dog shake, because if you do, you will have to go back to the start. You will have to make it round the dog basket in order to win the game. The dog likes to shake himself dry so you may get wet and if you do, you will have to start all over again. It is a game of anticipation and waiting for the dog to shake.

The dog to this set is really cute and it is a fun game to play. It is very funny when you get splashed by the dog, but if you don't like to get wet, then maybe this isn't the right game for you. However, you don't get soaking wet, just a little bit and enough to be fun. It is a great game to learn turn taking as you have to wait for the other player to take their turn. There are some annoying aspects of this game and older children may get fed up of this game quickly as it is quite repetitive.

The game has some problems with design and the water aspect, doesn't always work. It would make a good Christmas gift for younger children, but older one's would get bored quicklly. With Christmas just around the corner this is one of the toy's on offer, but it isn't as wonderful as it is cracked up to be. The instructions are easy to follow and understand. Although the game is about the dog getting wet, he doesn't get too wet. This might be good for those who don't like getting wet, but it may be a disappointment for some who enjoy getting wet. The dog does not splash a lot and compared to some games where the toy gets really wet, it is a bit of a disappointment. As a family game though, we did find it funny when one of us got wet and were laughing quite a lot. In this sense, it is good for spending time with family, but after a few games you get bored.

It is an easy game to play and not complicated at all. If anything, it is too simple and repetitive. If your child is dog mad then they will like this game, despite its faults. It is the perfect game to play on Christmas day with the whole family. You will need to buy batteries for it and it goes through them quite quickly. It is a bit tricky to get round the board and then when you think you are going to win, you get wet and have to start all over again which can be annoying. Although this is a family game, it is more for kids because it is easy to get bored of, whereas kids will enjoy doing the same thing over and over again.

It is usually priced around £20 and I think it could be cheaper because it's not fantastic and there are problems with the game. However, if you can get it in the sales then it may be worth buying for less. We did find that when the dog started to shake, it made us jump because you are not expecting it and you are waiting to get wet. It does have a tendency of leaking water, but if you put a towel underneath it, it should be OK. Due to it being very samey, after a while it gets a bit boring and you may just have an hour of laughs before not wanting to play it again.

I could see this as a good summer toy when the weather is hotter, but getting wet in the winter, is not much fun. It is quite difficult to store as we could not fit it back in the box. Also it is difficult to take apart without damaging it.

When playing the game, you simply roll the dice and move around the basket whilst adhering to the instructions. Some of the instructions will tell you to pump water or turn on the taps. There will be a point in the game where the dog gets splashed by the shower whilst another contestant triggers the dog to shake and wet everyone else. It doesn't have much of a splash so children may not be entertained by this.

It looked a lot better when it was advertised on the television, but the reality is, it is a bit boring. Younger children may find it better than older children. It is a very easy game to play with rules that are clear. Getting the water through the mechanism is not that easy and this is definitely a fault in the game. Also the rubber material that the dog is made from does not dry very well. Therefore, it is difficult to put the dog away because of it being wet so you have to leave it out to dry. However, once it is dried, the kids usually want to play with it again.

The game does not last that long and the board could definitely be more exciting. I like the bright colours of this game, that is definitely a plus for small children. The bath is a good idea with the dog inside it. The bath is blue with an overhead shower and the dog is a light brown rubbery material. The board is circular with numbers on the squares and bone shapes. The box looks as though the game is amazing with the dog shaking in the bath with two children on either side. The box has written on it, "The Showering, Shaking, Doggy, Bathing Game!"

What's in the box?

Soggy Doggy in bath
Game board
4 x game tokens
4 x tokens
Dice
Instruction leaflet

The age recommendation is 4 upwards and it is for 2 to 4 players. The manufacturer is John Adams. John Adams has also manufactured Telestrations, Five A Side Football Game, Silly Sausage Game, Think Words, Giggle Wiggle Game and Pig Out (The Greedy Pigs Game) to name a few. You can buy Soggy Doggy from Toys R Us, Smyths Toys, The Entertainer, Amazon and Ebay to name a few.

I would not say this toy gives good value for money because of the faults with it. It does not give much play-ability or enjoyment because you get bored of it quickly. The design and presentation is good, cheerful and bright. It does not take many knocks and bangs and you do have to be careful with it.
