Advantages Clear, bright, space saving, reasonable price
Disadvantages Could come with a DVI cable but then it was only £220
The ProLite E483S offers superb quality and value for money.
I changed from a 17" CRT monitor as it was on it's last legs, ok I wanted that extra 2" - who says size doesn't matter? It is actually more than a 2" increase as on a CRT monitor some of the tube is hidden behind the frame whereas a TFT screen is completely on show. NB screen sizes are quoted as the diagonal measurement of the screen.I also shied away from TFT as the picture quality compared to a CRT was not as good IMO - until now! The screen is crisp and sharp on text documents, dvd's look great and games are smooth, (I have not noticed any ghosting or dead pixels). This is because the E483S has a 12msec response time and 500:1 contrast ratio. I'm in the process of obtaining a DVI cable (which does not come supplied - it's only downfall really, but then for about £220 what do you expect. So hopefully the picture will be even better - if possible.
Set-up was simple, but I did download the drivers from www.iiyama.com and installed it manually in XP - just one of my habits. The contrast and brightness did need adjusting via the onscreen display (OSD), as the manufacturing default is set to max on both. But the OSD is very simple to use, even I didn't need to refer to the manual. The casing comes in silver with a black stand - though you wouldn't really notice it as it is very thin, even with a pair of built in speakers (I cannot comment on their quality as I haven't set it up to use them as they are only 1W compared to the pair of xxW speakers I already have).
Oh and goodness does it save space compared to the old CRT, I've reclaimed so much desk space, I'm going to have to buy extra polish for dusting!ALL IN ALL A TOP QUALITY BUY AT A FANTASTIC PRICE, IT'S SAVED ME SPACE, ELECTRICITY AND MY EYES - I'M VERY HAPPY INDEED!!!
