Advantages nice design, cooks well

Disadvantages -

When it comes down to buying things for the kitchen I usually go to either Tesco or Ikea but Ikea is not always the easiest for me to get to. However, while at university I made a big trip there and bought a number of cookware items and one of the things I purchased was this Steka frying pan as it was a good price and it looked like a pretty good quality frying pan to stand the test of time or atleast a good amount of time without being damaged after one big use.

APPEARANCE

This comes in a number of colours but I wanted the navy blue as it seemed quite sophisticated looking. It really is a pretty normal frying pan, the usual circle base black inside and navy blue exterior with a sturdy black plastic handle that is tightly screwed on and your usual metal rings underneath to help fry. The other good thing about this frying pan is that it is very lightweight and easy to hold while cooking. It is medium sized and is 0.4kg in weight and is 24cm in diameter and 4cm in height.
STEKA FRYING PAN

One of the main features that made me buy this pan was the fact that the pan was non stick as I would never buy one that wasn't. It is made of aluminium and has a non stick coating and the handle is made of phenolic plastic. The pan is handwash only and can be used on a gas hob, cast iron hob or glass ceramic hob. I use my pan on a glass ceramic hob and it works perfectly on this heating up very quickly through the aluminium.

I have used this pan for everything from frying minced beef to frying bacon, sausages or just cooking meat and sauces and also using stir fry and it has been perfect for most. Sometimes I have felt the size has prevented me from cooking bigger portions and you can feel restricted at times but it cooks very quickly and also cooks very evenly and the oil heats up quick if you use it. I have had no real problems with it and I also find nothing does stick which is a relief as I have had pans say non stick and they have.

The fact nothing sticks is good but dirty oil can be a bit of a nightmare to clean out of this pan as I sometimes find I have to wash it 2 or 3 times to thoroughly clean it out. I do always leave the pan to soak as with grease it can really turn it black but the inside has kept its colour and still looks like when I bought it with the odd obvious effects of cooking. The base of the pan however is very black now from using this a lot and it has only a few parts that are still silver but this is general usage.

Overall, I am very pleased with this frying pan as it got me through university and is still going strong and the handle is perfectly attached still. The outside is not as blue as it was but as I said for the amount of times I have used this, I really cannot complain as it has been reliable and a very good frying pan to stand the test of time as I'd wanted. It is ideal for students of anyone moving into a home that needs a new frying pan or just a household that doesn't need a huge frying pan.
COST

This pan is very competitive in the current cookware market as it only costs £1.39 which really is a bargain considering you won't need to buy another for a while. It is available in all Ikea stores which if you are not sure where they are then you can find that out on the website easily.

The official Ikea website is http://www.ikea.com and from here you will be able to find more detail if you type 'steka' into the search box.
