Well , In these days when , it seems , everyone is selling laminate flooring because an awful lot of people want to install it - it is becoming increasingly difficult to decide where to buy. (As you may have already read - B&Q was a complete disaster for us) We shopped around (as we were on a budget of around two hundred pounds for a 30ft by ten foot room.) We ended up at Ikea (Wednesbury) and asked for samples of the Tundra range of flooring - Now we are talking quality stuff here - not your cheap chipboard stuff - solid MDF with a truly hard finish - ideal for these "heavy domestic" uses i had in mind!!! We also took assurance from Ikeas 90 day money back guarantee regarding the flooring - If i am not 100% happy with it (even after laying it)and i have followed all instructions carefully - they will buy it back !!!!! Every penny of it!! - Now thats customer Satisfaction,
Anyway - laying the tuff was a dream , i consider myself quite good at DIY but have never been much good at things involving Wood and straight lines!! I had no cause to worry - it took no more than three hours total to do my (30'x10') room and it looks great. No wastage (well , less than 2 pieces) and my wife is ultra pleased with the easy to maintain finish. The only problem is that i have now got to do the kitchen and hallway!!(oh well - it will be as enjoyable as this weekends work - a complete sense of achievement without the tradesmans bill!!!
We purchased Tundra flooring , in Birch finish (at £6.90per sq metre), Ikeas own laminate flooring glue and fixing kit. If you consider this purchase please bear in mind that the planks come in 1.2m lengths - and i ended up squeezing my two children onto one third of the back seat to get the stuff home!!!! oh - the flooring also comes with a 15 year guarantee against defects and wearing out!!) Good Luck.
