Advantages: An angel that died. Disadvantages: died too young.
This is the month when we have been asked to write musical reviews. I wrote a review on Songbird, a record by Eva Cassidy, though feel it is not enough to write about her record. Her life mattered to a lot of us, and without her songs, my life would not be as it is today. This is my tribute to a short life that left its mark on me.
Eva Cassidy was born on the 2nd February 1963 and died on the 2nd November 1996. She grew up just outside Washington, and came from a musical background, her father teaching children with learning disabilities and part time musician. She was a child that loved music from a very early age and formed a band with her father and brother, and went on to be a backing singer for more well known artists who recognised the quality of her voice. Advantages: quirky Disadvantages: cut a bit short?
Everything Is Illuminated is the directing and screen-writing debut of actor Liev Schreiber, starring the likes of Elijah Wood, and Eugene Hutz.
It is the tale of Jonathon (Wood), a young american jew with a penchant for collecting odds and ends, who arrives in Ukraine, searching for the town where his grandfather grew up. To achieve this end, he enlists the help of Heritage Tours, an outfit run by a local, and so this film takes the form of a roadtrip across rural Ukraine.
Jonathon's translator is Alex (Hutz), the son of Heritage's owner, who speaks English in a very broken and comedic way, which generates some classic lines. Jonathon's driver is Alex's grandfather (Boris Leskin), a grumpy, anti-semitic old man. Also along for the trip is Sammy Davis Jr. Jr., Grandfather's seeing eye dog. Despite his not being blind.

The first thing that hit me when I played Mat Hoffmans Pro BMX is the incredible similarity to both Tony Hawks and Tony Hawks 2. Is this a bad thing? HELL NO! Tony Hawks 1 and 2 are two of the best games I’ve played on any console. I may be a dedicated Ninty but that doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy great games on other platforms. MHP BMX is in fact made by the same people who made Tony Hawks. The same engine is used and the game plays almost exactly the same. So why’s this game so good? Because of those very reasons I just gave! A game that more than closely resembles Tony Hawks can’t be bad! Can it?!
I picked up the controls amazingly easily. They are just so simple. It’s this kind of simplicity that is missing from games today but thankfully MHP BMX has simplicity in abundance.
