- Imation is a very reliable brand. They are the most I've used and they don't give me much problems at all. It's writing speed really depends on your CD writer's speed, another review another time another place.

I'm going to highly recommend this to anyone who's got loads of files on the computer and they are not backed up. Seriously as an ex computing student I understand the importance of backing up files, and also archiving them. Along with a review on the Imation CDR I will give you my personal opinions on storage tips.
Firstly for those who know nothing about computers... sigh.. sad but I know this applies to many of you! (evil grin). ------------------------------------------------------------------- - CDR simply means empty compact disks which you can copy files onto. - You will need them to transfer files which you never use on the computer but you might need in the future. Or you want to send a copy of some files to your grandchildren (evil grin again) some other parts of the country or world. You can also duplicate your favourite CDs and lots more.. basically a storage space other than your hard drive. - It's space capacity is 700MB or 80 minutes. This means you can store files up to 700MB of space, or 80 minutes worth of songs. - It's cheaper than buying another hard disk, and is very portable as well. - Ok that's about it for the dinasaur generations. To sum up, if you need more space on your computer, or need to copy some files to your grandkids, or want to duplicate a CD. This is the type of item you would need. Make sure you have a CD writer. Oh yes and ask your grandkids to send you a program to copy and transfer the files.
Ok now for the younger generation ------------------------------------------------------------------ - Imation is a very reliable brand. They are the most I've used and they don't give me much problems at all. It's writing speed really depends on your CD writer's speed, another review another time another place. - You can get them much cheaper if you buy them as a bulk rather than 5 pieces. I get 100CDRs each time I buy and they cost me about £30. - As an architecture student as I have informed you all I have tons of files which needs to be stored. And I make 2 copies each time, backing up is very very important. - Other brands which I would recommend is Sony (quite expensive), Maxwell and Copycat. I've used these before and found them quite useful as well. I'm serious when I say that not all brands are good. I've bought some CDRs with no brand names whatsover, DIRT CHEAP but out of 10 CDs, 3 aren't working. That's very annoying. Imation is at an above everage quality, it lasts, and for the price you pay it is in my opinion one of the best deals out there. - I wrote a review on flash memory pens as well and the difference between this and flash memory is that once you write on a CDR you can't erase it. The CD will be considered either used, or corrupted. If you want to be able to copy and then reuse the CD again you should go for CDRW (CD- ReWritable), which of course is at a higher price. - I would recommend using Ahead-Nero for burning CDs. It's one of the most convenient I've ever used, ideal for beginners because they have a very helpful wizard feature in it which allows you to just click and let the program configure for you. This is however just a personal opinion. You can download more at www.download.com, search for Burners. Try them out yourself and choose the one you like.
------------------------------------------------------------------- Finally, remember that unlike a memory pen, CDRs are more easily corruptable because of it's exposed disk surface. Make sure you keep them in a casing or a cover to avoid scratches to the data surface. Remember my advice on buying in bulks and not individual CDs, and lastly, my top tip:
* Everytime you record a CD, make sure you choose the 'don't end session' option, so that you can actually continue writing data into it until it fills up 700MB. Otherwise if you have a 10MB file and you end the session for that CD, you'll never be able to use it anymore and you've just wasted 690MB worth of space. Organise before you burn, people.
Burn Burn Burn
P.S. Burning is a term used to represent 'copying files/data into the CD. Sorry for any confusion caused, and sorry if I offended anyone, I'm only joking, gramps, it's never too late to learn!

...25p a CD. (£24.99)
Imation are known for there quality media discs, whether it be CD’s or DVD’s. With these discs you can only write it once, you can store and share any combination of digital images, data, music and more. You can if you want use these discs to back-up your computer. They obviously aren’t as efficient as DVD discs because they are only 700mb, were if you purchased a DVD it would have 4.7 GB.
I have used about 70 of the 100 that ... ...current.
To write on Imation CD’s you will need a special kind of pen; this will have to be a water-soluble ink pen that does not contain a solvent in the ink. It will also have to have a soft top because if it didn’t you will end up scratching the disc. Overall this is a good cheap alternative to the so called better quality CD-R’s that are available, personally I cant see any difference I will be using these for a long time.
Well I have written ...

Advantages: box, speed Disadvantages: no instruction manual
...am writing a review on imation CD-R's.
CD's are very cheap by them selves and if you get them in a bundle they are no different. I bought these CD'S a pack of 50 for 15pound this works out at about 30p a CD which isnt bad. The CD'S come in this very stylish box and stand s it is easy to pick one from the top and it saves scrating them all. it also comes with a foam top which also helps the cd's not to scratch even if they are being tossed about ... ...their is no instruction manual for people who dont often write CD'S.
The actually CD itself is quite plain which is quite good because it leaves you a lot more room to write what you want on the CD. It says on the box that it can write up to 52x (for those who dont know that is very fast for a CD) and it lives up to its name it can write at 52x which is amazing. It comes in a pack of 50 cd's. The CD storage is 700mb which is about 80 mins of audio ...

Advantages: Their cheapness Disadvantages: None I have found
...wasn't my own mistake.
Imation are very realistic price at around £15 for a spindle pack of 50, or 100 for £30. As there is no saving on the 100 pack, I generally buy 50 at a time. The pack they come in, is excellent for their storage too, with a spindle to keep them on and a nice twist, clear lid that keeps the discs dust and grime free until you need them.
These discs are for one-time recording only, but you can get the re-writable discs too. ... ...to friends about them.
Imation make a full range of recordable and rewritable CD's and DVDs, and are fast becoming one of the world leaders in data storage media. Imation are teaming up with the famous Napster in a deal, and will manufacture and distribute blank CDs and DVDs bearing the Napster name and logo.
So, would I buy these cdr's again? Yes.
are they good value for money?
Yes.
Are they reliable?

...bought a pack of 50 imation CD-R discs from Argos for £13.99. I normally buy a branded disc but these were out of stock so I thought I would give these cheapie ones a go. A pack of 50 Phillips CD-Rs cost £19.99 and a pack of 25 Phillips CD-Rs is £12.99 from Argos so this is a big saving!
So whats the difference?
None as I can see!
All come in a spindle pack,
All hold upto 700MB/80 mins of data All are 48x
All can be used to copy music, data, ... ...I can tell no difference at all in the quality of the music or photos I have so far put onto these discs compared to the usual far more expensive ones I normally buy!
The only difference as far as I can tell is that there is no brand name splashed all over the product and no huge price tag to accompany the branded name!
I have used quite a few of the discs from the pack and so far haven't had a bad one.
So unless you are a brand name snob, I would ...

Advantages: Good brand, nice packaging Disadvantages: nothing really
I purchased a pack of these as i had many files on my PC to back-up. Seeing as they were reasonably priced, had cases and a well known brand, i thought i'd purchase them to test out. These are recordable CD's which mean that you can only write to them once and then that it is. If you are after Cd's that you can write to more than once then you are after CD-RW's however over time the quality degradeds quite quickly and also the price is a lot more ... ...700MB or 80 minutes. This means you can store files up to 700MB of space for data, or 80 minutes of audio. These can also write data at up to 52x which means that it can really burn some stuff fast however i would not recommend anyone to write data at this speed as it will not be as good quality and it will burn out the disks quicker!.
Overall these are a good buy and worth getting if you are after a good solution for cheap storage/back-up. ...
