How many times have you walked down the aisles of products in your computing/electronic shop, and you are a bit baffled as to which are the best writable DVDs to buy? They come in difference pack sizes - 10, 20, 50, with jewel cases, without jewel cases, plain both sides, with a label on the top side, different prices, can I stop there!?

It seems I have found some which have been reliable, easy to label (so important for when you want to track down that disc you recorded last week - if only you could correctly pick it out of all the 5 you recorded, which are ALL unlabelled, and sitting under a heap of newspapers!), easily available, and affordable!

The DVDs we have been using in our household to record onto, is Imation DVD +R, 4.7GB. These are DVDs for saving media onto. Such as video files, audio files (if you have a DVD player which can play audio files, such as MP3 etc, you can save music onto the discs and play them in your living room), and also archiving data files.

Why do we find these DVDs have come above some others on the market?
These DVDs have a nice pearl whitey and silver top-side, with lines printed on it, which enables you to write on the surface, possibly neatly if you want to use the lines, so easily and smoothly, which means you won't mislay a DVD, and always know what is on which DVD. Some other discs available, are not labelled like this, and are just silver (like the bottom of a DVD) on both sides. This not only makes less friendly for labelling, but you will have to pick up the DVD and study it closely to get it the right way up

These Imation DVD +R were on offer in our local computing shop - 50 discs, reduced from £25,00 to £19.99, plus 16 free DVDs. It was a great offer.

One thing to bear, if you are thinking of buying these, it's not a downside, but it depends what you want to use these DVDs for.. they are writable ONCE. This means, you can't change the media on it or add to it after you have burnt it once. So just incase you forget, ahh, want to put another video clip on it, after you've already completed burning the disc, either use a second disc, or start again! This happens now and again - and I think, oh, silly me! But that's the human brain!

These discs are versatile if you want to have the facility of being able to burn video and audio files onto the same disc.
Ooh, some more information, about the packaging. You know these Discs have a 'label' which is attractive I must say (it's got the Imation name printed on the top, with the company's logo - a hand waving a magic wand), plus the important technical info about the disc: ' DVD+R 8 x and 4.7GB - 120 min' is printed in smaller font just below. These discs come in a very sturdy see-through plastic case, so that you have a little tower of discs sitting neatly on your desk or in your cupboard, and the discs are dispensed from a central spindle, which holds up the DVDs in the case so they don't fall out when you take the lid off. The lid also, is designed well, having a 'twist and close' mechanism, so that the lid doesn't just lift off anytime in case you knock the tower onto the floor and you end up with 50 DVDs sprawled across the floor, but you have to twist the bottom the opposite way from the lid, with a reassuring gently twist, and the lid lifts off. The lid securely fastens onto the base, it clicks on reassuringly, better than other makes
