There is a flat fee of £10 per buy / sell trade for the UK there are no other commisions that have to be paid to imiweb except for the usual charges for stamp duty etc. You can also buy stock in other countries but there may be a different flat fee i.e £15 for US markets.
The customer service is also very good, with support via email, phone and live assistance from their website.
You can trade also trade in different currencies and markets.
The only bad point that I have about the service is withdrawing funds, which takes 3 days before you can actually request a withdrawal (so that stock trades are settled).
Appart from the last point I think that this service is very good and I will be using them in the future.
There are also a few other great features to the site which include: - Portfolio Management - Sms and Email alert for when high or low prices are met for any of your investments (set by you) - Option to suggest new tradeable stocks - Ability to access the website through other services such as WAP, PDA and Interactive TV
Advantages: Cheaper Than The Rest Disadvantages: Will They Sell my details?
...away was pretty scarey. IMIweb made the whole process easy and rapid. Its great to get trading straight away -- online transfers from my current account to my trading account and vice versa.
Also, you can trade for only £10 in the UK and £15 for European and American stocks. this is pretty much the cheapest online trading cost in the market given that there are no minimum number of trades or minimum volume or anything.
A seperate secure window ... ...you through the trading process from selecting your stock to transfering what you've made (hopefully) back into your current account.
The only question is how is it pronounced? Well, I phoned the help line and it turns out to be pronounced like EE-ME-WEB.
PS you do need 128 bit encryption to operate the website.
Like other websites you can get 10 minute or so prices for stocks pretty much anywhere (many sites offering this for free have been closing ...

Advantages: Cheap trading fees Disadvantages: Poor customer service
After comparing online stockbrokers, I decided to opt for IMIWeb, mainly because it had one of the lowest commission rates. Eager to get share dealing right away, I filled in its online application form but when I got to the payment page I came across a problem. I found that the encryption security certificate had expired, which would have presumably meant my debit card details being transmitted unsecurely across the Internet. Not prepared to take ... ...asking what was being done to resolve this issue. That was on the
21st March 2004. On the 29th April - over a month later - I got a reply explaining where I can check the validity of the certificate or provide my debit card details over the phone.
They apologised for the lateness of the response - but it came too late for me. After waiting three days, I decided to sign up with different stockbroker. When it comes to customer service, even if you're ...

I'm a customer of selftrade. I first signed up in february 2001 and used them for the orange IPO (flotation) and now use them more regularly for short term daily trading.
Their service is good overall and is one of the cheapest online brokers in terms of not having any account charges and costing only 12.50 a trade. This is only beaten by hargreaves lansdowne and imiweb.
For someone like myself their service isn't always good enough for day trading as the site has hiccups here and there but is more than sufficient for anything else. When it's in operation though there are no problems at all and a trade can take as little as 30 seconds.
They allow you to trade on the London Stock Exchange including the AIM market and also have two type of trading, at best or at quote. 'At best' is where you place a trade and get it at the best ...

Advantages: reasonably cheap Disadvantages: terrible customer service
for my remaining stock to be transferred, they ignored my new broker's transfer request and 2 emails from myself for six weeks, even though they had charged an immediate transfer fee. It was only when I telephoned them that they answered with "oh yeah, we haven't got round to that yet!", but subsequently arranged the transfer in less than 10 minutes!
5. They referred to my transaction (using my hard earned cash) as a "scrap deal"!
The basic fee structure (for those brave enough to proceed) is quite reasonable at 0.8% of the trade, with a minimum fee of £8. They do cover the AIM, OFEX, US and European markets. However, there are a number of flat rate online stockbrokers who provide better value on larger trades and have similar geographic coverage. For the record, I have moved to Ample/imiweb and am very satisfied.
